I had it on good authority at the weekend that the highest paid player at Maidenhead is on about £250 a week so I'd be very surprised if it was as low as £400 in league 1 tbf

It's about what I had players in league 2 on so not that unrealistic for a bloke who was a bit part player at the team relegated to the conference last season and hasn't played all that much for a team fighting relegation in league 1 that also had financial problems not so long ago

 really?

These are professional footballers - i know some semi-pro players who get paid £200 a week.

I think the average for a league one player is about £1500, so doubt he is on £400

Considering he has played a total of less than a seasons worth of professional league games in his life and spent much of his time so far in non league.

Looks like he is still on his first ever contract in professional football too. I think there would be quite a handful of reserve players in sh*t teams down there on that sort of wage

Oldham are so skint they couldn't swap shirts at full time as they cannot afford to replace them so not surprised by real world wages. He's only scored 5 goals in 55 games in League football so he's hardly an earth shaker.

Didn't the Bradford striker who scored at Villa Park take a wage cut from the Co-op to sign pro forms at Valley Parade? Not surprised to hear this guy's on such a low wage given Oldham's financial issues and they're a similarly sized club as Bradford...

Average Premier League wages have reached £22,353 a week – before lucrative bonuses – or £1.16million a year.
Average Championship earnings are £4,059 a week (£211,068 a year), less than a fifth of players one division above.
In the bottom division, League Two, their weekly pay of £747 is not much more than the national average.
League Two earnings are also 30 times smaller than those in the Premier League.

If you would have asked me what I thought Matt Smith was on, given he's young, has been scratching around the non league circuit and is at a club with huge financial restraints. I would have said about £4-500 a week.

I can name two very good players who have both in the last 24 months turned down professional contracts and stayed at semi pro clubs as they earn more in their day jobs + its much secure. One is a school teacher who I doubt is making much more than £30k.

Friend of mine is at a League 2 club and all i'll say is he's not on the average League 2 wage according to the above, he's on less than that.

Yep, this.

I certainly thought a League One player would earn £150-200k a year as standard, surprised me that.

There's prob a small handful that do, but certainly no one at Oldham where Id be surprised if anyone is on more than £1k a week.

No surprise .
Before they got their Russian and became just about the biggest payers below the Championship one of their strikers moved to (then) non-league Crawley for more money.
Players below the Championship often earn less than the national average wage but they are doing a job that most people would love to be doing and they get a long summer break as well as working some days only for a couple of hours so it's not all bad.
