McDermott Confirmed as Leeds Manager

by SPARTA » 12 Apr 2013 15:16

I know it's in the wrong place, but what the hell - Good luck Brian. That's a great move him, but I question how patient their new owners will be, and the fans too. They will be expecting instant success next season.

We move on.

And good luck to him. Was a brilliant championship manager, but sadly not what we needed for the premier league.

(Hope this doesn't apply to adkins too :/ )

Like most people I don't like Leeds but there is no denying it is a great move for both BMcD and Nigel Gibbs. Big club with big expectations. I would have no problem with them finishing 2nd behind us in the Championship next season. Good luck Brian!

Six points for us next season then.

Just double up on the wingers and the attacking threat has gone. Play a few fast runners in midfield who can carry the ball 50 yards from where their lone target man loses it to the penalty area line where the defence is camped in a straight line, then just slip it off to an onrunning supporting player who slots it in.

Doesn't feel right - Brian will forever be a royal in my eyes. I wonder if he feels the same though he won't admit it obviously.

Want him to do well but I worry about his career future at Leeds. His success here came from a great relationship in the club and inspiring the players not just as a manager but as a friend. Leeds want instant success - I'm not sure he can give them that immediately.

I also worry as I've seen Leeds fans happy with the appointment because they think they'll get a better style of football than under Warnock. :?

Can't help but feel this is a bad move for him, Leeds are not a club that's gonna stick with him while he implements his own tactics. As for the fans they want everything to happen straight away and won't give him the time he will need. Several of my mates are Leeds fans and are not overjoyed at his appointment, they want a bigger name manager

But I wish him all the best, reading fc legend forever

Interesting the Leeds board like how he did it on the cheap at Reading. They must have missed us having the 4th biggest wage budget last season. He wont take them up with cheap punts. Many failed here. He'll need money too.

I'd hate to see him fail. Best of luck to Brian. Please take Queensley with you.

You think Leeds under Brian McDermott will employ the up and under?

To any Leeds fan reading this forum.

Brian has way too much class for your dirty scummy club.

Really dont see this having a happy ending tbh. Think its a poor move for Brain, just dont see him and Leeds as a good match at all. Not even sure his head is in the right place so soon after 13 years at Reading and not expecting the boot. Should be taking time out of the game at least until the summer.

And of all the clubs he could have gone to

I fear he may well struggle.

Whilst excellent for us, his managerial experience is still pretty limited and from within a narrow field.

When he took over with us, he had been with the club for ages and was working with players who he knew well, had in many cases helped develop, and who knew and respected him.

At Leeds he will be taking on players that he knows very little about. I'm sure they will have some prima donnas in their squad (he has shown that he has difficulty dealing with that type) and others who are not his type of player/personality. He will need to overcome these challenges very quickly (I doubt Leeds fans will be particularly patient). If he does not then I fear he will be slaughtered.

I wish him the best of luck - I think he will need it!
