Old managers you remember as players

by Arch » 15 May 2013 18:12

It has just about got to the point where I remember as a player pretty much any manager who had a significant playing career. I was put in mind of this by 63 year old Brian Kidd, who I recall as a mop-topped youth for Man U that my primary school friends used to imitate. I also remember 68-year-old Jupp Heynckes from his Borussia days in Europe in the early seventies. Managers who played before my time have either retired or died. We grow old.

Not a manager but I can remember seeing Graham Taylor head of the PFA play for Bury and he was shite. Also saw Bradley Walsh play for Brentford, when he went over to take a corner he always did a Norman Wisdom trip.

I was going to offer up Chris Casper although I'm aware he's no longer a manager. Good memories of Chris in a pretty dire team. His dad, Frank, once sat next to me at Madejski which was a bit of a surreal experience given that I was looking at a bloke that I'd only ever seen in Shoot or on MOTD. Looking back Burnley had one hell of team.

Anyway, I digress. A google led me to this site. Which is quite interesting and some of you may appreciate it.
