How Do You View Leicester?

by John Smith » 04 Jul 2016 10:58

Going into the new season, in what regard do you hold Leicester?

Chancers who had a one season wonder and have no chance of succeeding again? A serious candidate with every right to be mentioned in the same breath as the so called "big four"?

I also wonder how teams are going to approach playing them again - have they been sussed out? How much will the Champions League participation affect them.

Please delve into your crystal balls and provide opinions accordingly

I don't think they will really threaten the top 4 spots this coming season. My friend and I have both shared our predictions on how the league will look. I predicted Leicester will finish 8th. To be honest I'm fed up of hearing about them now, and also fed up of that bellend vardy getting non stop fcking mentions

Would think they'd be sussed out this season, but then that's what we all thought last season. Their squad will be a lot more stretched with Europe, and should think they won't be as lucky with injuries. City, Utd and Chelsea will all be a lot stronger this season, so can't see them challenging for top four. Top 10 and scraping out of their Champ League group. Although I tipped for relegation last season, so they'll probs do the treble.

Their squad will probably be weakened by poor signings, injuries and returning to the mean, but they should all remember how to play well enough for some success to keep their unique fan-base happy and clapping away - maybe a trophy or a glorious European night and qualification for the knockout stages.

The same will probably be true of Spurs, though, and none of Chelsea, Man City, Man Utd or Arsenal seem to be signing top-of-range hungry players, so perhaps there will be another Leicester this year.

I'll probably stick a tenner on them getting relegated.

It looks like Kante might be off. Just losing him will be a huge blow for them.

I doubt they'll be near the relegation zone but you never know.

I guess I view them as a hard-working side with some quality thrown in, who went on an amazing run, then used that new-found confidence and work-ethic to win the league in quite amazing style. But even now when I look at their squad, I see a mid-table Premier League team. But fair play to them! We'd all take winning the Prem and fighting for surivival/mid-table in the top flight for a few years after if we could.

Well, wasn't that 2006/07 for us? Not in quite as grand style, but what a hell of a season it was.

Forest managed to keep up the good work when they had their brilliant period under Clough and I see that Leicester are signing a striker for about £20 million which is a sign perhaps that they won't rest on their laurels.
I expect them to be in the top 8 or so and good luck to them for breaking the money mould that has meant the title being bought by most of the winners in the past 20 years.

I wish our Thais were as generous and committed as theirs clearly are.

So do you want someone to break the money mould or do you want everyone to be able to buy the title?

Think they'll be mid-table - they had a set XI last year and players who were happy to be subs or bit-part players. They've signed a couple already and I can't see them getting that consistency back.

They will be struggling around the bottom of the league - so obvious

Indeed. Amazing memories. Still makes me angry how SJM refused to invest.

What are you talking about? He bought Matejovsky, Fae, Rosenior and Cisse. The boat was pushed out.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them down near the bottom/getting relegated. I don't think they will, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it. Will probably finish 6th-12th

The other sides won't be as sh+t as last season. I reckon bottom half for them this season.

I see them being between 6th and 10th (probably closer to 10th). I think Ranieri will keep them from falling further this upcoming season and they've held on to most of their key players (so far). They will bomb out of the Champions League during the group stage. Their key loss was Walsh joining Everton as DoF. That'll hurt them more (long term) than the loss of any specific player...
