Franchise FC To be fair, it's like PLANNING to rob a bank, getting just inside the door, realising that everyone knows who you are and you're going to get nicked, THEN afterwards saying you are sorry

They hadn't actually taken any money (but don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting them at all, just that we can only work with some Rafa Benitez's - i.e. facts)
Although if the announcement was to test the water they may have found it to be significantly higher than boiling point

Whatever the analogy, this can't just be forgotten about; there must be consequences. Firstly, it seems the English teams have broken a law codified by the Premier League by signing up to it.

Then the government have announced a review which will doubtless be highly effective and result in radical measures to give clubs back to the fans.

Man City need to be stripped of the league if they win and all teams banned from Europe for 5 years.

The authrorities need to take some kind of action, but it`s difficult to punish teams that have no control of what their owners are doing behind the scenes.
I would say a 1 year European ban and a 10 point deduction for next season that might make it difficult to qualify for the following season.

Would put City 2nd - they would need at least 20 for it to really bite

WestYorksRoyal Surely they knew the outrage it would cause? Or are they that detached from reality and incompetent that they didn't foresee the backlash?

They did see the outrage, they had every move planned. What they didn’t know was that the British government would intervene and as no one can stop them from passing laws they were the only ones that could make credible threats.

This should seriously strengthen UEFA and FIFA's hand in future negotiations as they ought to be able to say, if the big clubs say they're off : "Well, you've tried that before, boys - good luck"

I absolutely don't buy that about the owners.

They cant surely just make decisions without consulting board members, directors, chairman etc

Its a oxf*rd pathetic sorry state of affairs the govt are only stepping in now and didn't give a oxf*rd about bury or Macclesfield either

The fact is that even if they ban them, points deduction etc......this isn't going away, it's gonna happen. This is just the start. They will think of something else.....maybe entice a few more teams into playing in it.....have a super League 1 and 2.....possibly even bring FIFA onside and give them their dream world club cup that UEFA arnt keen on.
For me this will be an opportunity missed for a football reset without those greedy bastards interfering and trying to do another big picture. A chance for salary and transfer caps and clubs to all be limited in their spending and to be audited properly like Germany before th season starts.......none of this ffp rubbish or parachute payments for failure.
Oh well.

I hope fans make a stand and stay away. Tickets are oxf*rd expensive and overpriced as it is and clearly clubs just see fans as customers to extract money from who like a brand and not supporters of the team.

Any club who signed up for this debacle should get some kind of sanction, I'm not sure what the PL rules allow but just because you backed out, you still signed the contract.

If we all carry on as normal then, this will come back round and next time if might work.

Their "official timing partner" apparently.

Now their kickoff times will be all over the place!

City the only one to officially withdraw so far. Saw some report a minute ago saying the 3 Spanish clubs are still up for it.

Perez going on Spanish telly shortly to explain all
