Ups & Downs 22/23

by Winston Biscuit » 20 Mar 2023 08:28

almost forgot to start the annual Ups & Downs thread!! :o

League 2:
Interesting to see if Leyton Orient manage to go up automatically after doing brilliantly in the first half of the season yet stumbled their way through the 2nd half.

League 1:
obv I am rooting for Plymouth but Ipswich & Barnsley (who are on a hell of a run) appear to be hunting them down. Bolton's loss of form has opened up the play offs for Peterboro, Wycombe & Pompey. Forest Green are long gone, its looking difficult for Cambridge too. Oxford look in real danger of going down and have a really tough run of fixtures coming up. Looking at the fixtures I would say Morecambe are going to need something pretty special to get out of it.

maybe the least interesting of the Scotch divs. Dunfermline running away with it. Relegation looks sorted too, just need to know who drops automatic and who is in the play offs

4th tier is Dumbarton & Stirling Albion fighting it out to see who wins......and they play each other on Saturday! :o

Even more enjoyable is seeing the large wobble going on with Derby County - they were in touching distance of the top 2 but really slipped away past few weeks and in danger of being caught by the chasing pack seeing 6th place. Make it happen.

If you can get an away day there in late April it is the perfect opportunity for a long weekend stay. Nice part of the world.

We'd have to stay up of course......

That certainly would be ideal, or August BH.

Well, yes there is that

Derby have Peterborough and Ipswich next too so a chance they are looking dodgy even for play offs in a week or so

Barnsnley are are one to keep an eye on. They are on a great run of form with 8 wins and 2 draws from the last 10 games, they have 2 games in hand, and they have Wednesday at home tomorrow then 3 games against teams in the bottom half.

Wednesday lose to Forest Green :o

Wednesday looked like cruising to to automatic promotion but the past few days has seen them take 1 point from the last 3 games

Ipswich & Barnsley will really believe they can go up automatically

Barnsley's great run came to an end last against against Exeter. feels close enough to the end of the season that that feels huge.

Derby Vs Ipswich this weekend. a win for Ipswich could really open the play off door to Peterborough, Wycombe & Pompey

Wednesday looked like the one team you could be confident in saying would take one of the top 2 spots 2-3 weeks back. they have really blown that recently

Plymouth & Wednesday have pretty decent run ins. Its only Ipswich that have a tough one, with games still to come again the teams currently in 4th, 6th, 7th & 8th

Barnsley and Ipswich still to play each other, and Barnsley play Peterborough on the last day but apart from that their run in is fine

Was looking at the Scottish leagues last night. Peterhead having a nightmare season and already confirmed either for relegation or relegation play off as they are 22 points from safety!

Was paying attention to the lowlands league - hoping Berwick and Gretna get back up there - but no chance of that happening this season.

Was just looking at who was most likely in England & Scotland to be confirmed or up(s) or down(s) first, and Burnley could be promoted in 8 days time when play away at Middlesbrough

most likely to be after that though as they would need other results to go their way in the meantime. maybe Easter Monday at home to Shef Utd

a significant number of f**ks given! (just missed your post)

Amazing run from Cheltenham and MK Dons (and Burton to a lesser degree) to pull themselves right out of it at this crucial time. Oxford have plummeted, and have a very tough run in. Accrington also have a tough run in but not as tough as Oxford. Morecambe also have some difficult fixtures. Oxford having a game in hand on Accrington and 2 in hand on Morecambe, and Oxford having the best goal diff might just be enough to save them. Though I am quite tempted to say they will finish 21st and drop.

final day of the season - Oxford Vs Accrington :o :o :o
