Brogue
Loafer I know that the FA would not have given it to Kane had it been him

It's not the FA that hand out the bans, its an independent regulatory commission

Sky Sports News senior reporter Rob Dorsett:

"It isn't the FA that have imposed this sanction. There's an important level of independence when it comes to serious disciplinary matters like this.

"The FA do the investigating and the charging but then they hand it over to an independent commission. That's normally made up of people very senior within the game but also lawyers, former high court judges.

yes precisely , thank you for agreeing with my point

the FA would not have given it to Kane

That's desperately weak sh*t.

The FA would not have given it to Kane.

The FA would not have given it to Toney.

The FA would not have given it to anyone - since the FA do not have the power to impose penalties in these cases.

Intrigued as to what Brentford do regarding his wages. Do they withhold them for the next four months until he starts training again as he may have breached his contract terms? Bite the bullet and hope he extends his current contract beyond 2025? Or hope someone comes in and takes him off their hands?

Imagine their will be financial penalties for him but Brentford just need to treat it like he has torn his ACL and out for 9 months. He could be pivotal in his return if they are wrong end of table and be like "a new signing". They will now need to find a striker in the Toney mould, but not sure there are many about.

Hard to have any sympathy for Toney. Rules are very clear. Written reasons will reveal more.

Have never understood why players can't bet on matches that don't include their club especially if the bets are for another division or country.
Rules are rules though and he has broken them so had to be punished ;regardless of the close season the ban is still for quite a long period.

How long did Trippier get for tipping his mates off about his move to Atletico Madrid that they then betted on-was it 12 matches?
That seems too short to me.

Toney could have ex teammates directly playing in a match he bets on. For all you know he could be privy to team news with may/may not move the market.

On a related note, it seems that the investigation on Xhaka’s booking vs Leeds is over on a lack of evidence.

Slippery slope.

If allowed in any form on any games, the habit sticks, spreads and then the potential for mass corruption digs in and ultimately the status of the game collapses from where it is now.

Big leap of course but that’s how they should (and probably do) assess the issue of footballers betting on football.

Doesn't look like Brentford will miss him - but then they were only playing SpuROFLs

Obviously jockeys are not allowed to bet but do we know if there are any sports where betting is permitted.?
When sports like tennis, athletics and so on were on an amateur basis I guess there could be no such restrictions but when it is the individual's contracted mode of work they probably have to apply.

Incidentally even in the example that RG 30 gave, any inside information (injuries, team selection etc.) is surely minor because of it being a team game whereas the risks are surely much higher in individual sports.

The reason why I thought Trippier should have received a greater punishment is because he was advising people about something that would definitely happen whereas other "information" is in no way certain to make the event happen, especially in a team game.

That, and also that it's much easier to implement and enforce a rule that's simple to understand. Do not bet on football is clear and unequivocal, with no potential loopholes.

Not reading all of it but the opening notes seem to suggest he did a lot of betting on his team's games (or his parent team's games when he was on loan) and that makes me think he's done well to get away with 8 months

He's got away pretty lightly - FA concludes that he has/had a genuine gambling addiction, and that is reflected in his receiving only an eight-month ban for betting on games he was involved in, albeit on the 13 occasions covering seven matches where he bet on his team to lose, he was not playing. He also tried to conceal his betting, his accounts were not in his name.

He's a very lucky boy to still have a playing career. Betting on games he was playing in is a massive no-no. He's played the sympathy card and been diagnosed with a gambling addiction. He'll be another bankrupt former pro in a few years.
