Careers of ex-footballers

by Dirk Gently » 07 Apr 2008 16:21

There's the old cliché about ex-footballers retiring to run a pub (plus Mick Channon who trains racehorses) - what other interesting careers are there for ex-footballers?

Who does what, though - examples would be nice rather than just a random list of professions/vices.

I read the title as ''Carers of ex-footballers'' and was going to ask how Gazza was doing.

Really unlucky with injuries once he left.

James Lambert was a sales sit at the desk on the phone all day blokie at Westcoast before leaving to do dimilar recently but elsewhere.

And he really did have the world at his feet.

Do I remember rightly that he had a trial at Monaco with Arsene Wenger and Blackburn were keen? Blew a great career!

There's a regular column in The Observer covering the careers of ex-pros. This week was Jim Whitley (brother of the slightly more famous Jeff), currently playing/singing the main role in a Nat King Cole musical. Last week featured Steve Guppy who now runs a barn building company.

Closer to home, John Polston is a masseur and personal trainer. Adi Viveash works at the Honda factory and is manager of Cirencester Town.

Martin Carruthers(sp?) doesn't run a pub, but is a barman and I believe lives in Reading now.

Robert Steiner (remember him?!) is a farmer
