His career ended two years before he scored in the World Cup Final and he became a World Cup winner?

He had a great international career for sure. Club career died when he left Juve, he didn't want to go. He was never truly loved at United, he's a player who needs love.

From Despair To Where? Stenny doing the same in League 2 as well.

And yet they lost 6-1 at home to the team 8 points adrift at the bottom last weekend didn't they?

Weird result that.

Crazy ending to Valencia vs. Real Madrid. Ball comes into the box and the referees blew the final whistle whilst the ball is in the air, and Bellingham heads it in the back of the net. Rudiger and Bellingham both given straight red cards for protesting after the match.

The referee, Gil Manzano says in his match report that he sent off Bellingham for saying "it's a oxf*rd goal"

Reports indicate he blew the whistle before the ball was crossed. Split second maybe but (if true) it does make a difference in how it reads.

They did a split screen which showed that he put the whistle to his mouth before the ball was crossed and then took it away without whistling. It was only after the ball was in the air that he actually blew for full time.

The whistle clearly goes as the player hits the cross.

No controversy really, it wasn't a goal.

Huge win for Bologna away to 5th placed Atalanta.

2 Brits on the scoresheet. Lookman for Atalanta and Ferguson with the winner for Bologna

Wheels fully off at Girona. Today's loss was against Mallorca.

4 points taken from the last possible 15. Depending on how the Athletic Bilbao Vs Barca match goes (currently 0-0 at HT) 5th place could be just 7 points behind them

Refs generally do 3 peeps on the whistle at fulltime. When is the games over, at the start of the first peep or end of the third?

Yeah, Jude has lost his head there, a bit immature. Still some shithouse refereeing though. He could and should have blown for full-time as soon as the initial corner was cleared, if time was indeed that tight.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Blow the whistle as soon as the first phase ends with the clearance. It's Clive Thomas all over again.

As soon as he blows the whistle. The 3 peeps is just to signify he is stopping the game as it is over rather than just for a foul but the first noise is the key one.

Interesting* article/idea on The Athletic yesterday about how football is the only major sport without a defined end state and there is this unwritten rule that you don't blow up if a team is on the attack even if the time is up.

The idea was, move to a model where for injury time the clock is stopped when out of play etc. So if the ref calls 4 mins of time added on, the clock in the stadium counts down and stops accordingly. Once the 4 mins is up, the game is done - doesn't matter where the ball is, game is over. Or you take the rugby view, of once time is up, next time the ball is dead (except for fouls) the game is over - so 4 mins up, you play until the ball is kicked off for a corner/goal kick/throw.

Leverkusen now 34 games unbeaten in all competitions, entering rare territory. Since the advent of European competition, Benfica hold this particular record, going undefeated in 48 matches between December 1963 and February 1965. Six other sides have reached 40 games without defeat in all competitions, most recently Real Madrid in 2016-17.
