Agree totally, with the exception of Derby fans going to Cardiff.

Trouble is in practice it's almost always impossible to guarantee play, and there is always a real effort to call games off as early as possible, using locally based refs where required. All credit to the people at Gillingham v Aldershot, who postponed today's game on Friday afternoon.

But games will always be postponed and I'm not sure what else could be done, because there'd be just as many complaints if a decision to postpone was made early and then it turned out a pitch was playable on the day.

back to the original?

pro-active (nice word that) predictive decisions 24 hours in advance?

Money spent on undersoil heating instead of peculiar players wages?

Bury played today

Well having 'bigged up' Poole Town on the 'Dover Athletic' thread, as promised I took my lad there this PM for their game vs basement club Hamble (No, it is a football club; not a cuddly toy! :? )

It now appears it was (more or less) the only non-league game that was played in the South!
... there were a few survivors (3) in Essex and Kent - though all in what could be described as Sarf/East Lahnden - oh and a few in the Midlands - Halesowen the highest ranked game on, in STEP03 - same division as Farnborough/Oxford City/Banbury

Game was far closer than form/league position suggested it would be - finally ended 3-0 to Poole - though it was 0-0 for 70 mins and quite closely fought for top vs bottom.
Crowd was 300 odd and f^*£ing cold!
Poole now have a playing record of: 22 wins 1 draw 0 losses F78:A16

Funniest thing was watching a young lady 'employed' by Poole to 'collect' lost footballs behind one of the goals.
Any shot high or wide would roll into some kind of brook at the edge of the Park - her method of retrieving them was to lean down the bank and try and fish them back with a step-ladder! The weight of it very nearly dragged her in after it on a couple of occasions.

soggy biscuit
S09Royal So much for 'Global Warming'

Experts stopped using that phrase years ago and went on to 'climate change' as there was proof that some areas of the world are getting colder year on year.

There is a theory that the melting of ice in the north of Europe and the Arctic will turn off the Gulf Stream. This is the main reason we don't have the blizzard conditions of Canada on similar latitudes and even the nothern United States, which are way further south than us. So, paradoxically, the warmer temperatures melting the ice could bring freezing conditions to Britain.

A lot of games off this weekend, but not yet anywhere near 1962/3. It started snowing on Boxing Day and the frozen snow did not thaw until March, with no mild interludes. Teams were playing third round matches in March and league tables bore no resemblance to reality, with some teams having played up to ten games more than others.
