ummm.....what a shocking performance by liverpool, they should have lost by more, mascherano is badly missed, lucas and dossena are not liverpool players, arbeloa and aurelio and riera are average...essien destroyed gerrard, skrtel and carragher are nowhere near as good as agger, the substitutions as usual were silly and kuyt offers little more than work ethic, what confuses me is how this team looked so good against real madrid, man ure and villa and so bad tonight? any ideas why?

bollocks, they've knocked chelsea out twice in three meetings and did the double over them this season, that's what confuses me, pool usually batter the so-called big sides

Torres is World Class, but Liverpool are essentially a one-man team. There is nothing wrong with this - Argentina won the world cup with Maradona and a team of Abeloa/Aurelio equivalents. However. when Gerrard doesn't play well, they just aren't as good.

Liverpool fail again, another false dawn.

Chelsea played brilliantly tonight, they were particularly good on the counter-attack their movement was swift and their passing precise, slicing liverpool open at the back. Liverpool rarely managed that and when they did they fluffed their chances bar Torre's first half goal. It was a deserved win for Chelsea. I suppose looking for a silver lining I could say that in a way now the pressure is off for Liverpool. They know they must go to Stamford Bridge and play without fear and attack looking for the minimum of 3 goals required to have a chance of going through. Realistically though they have a mountain to climb and I can't see any other outcome than Chelsea progressing to the semi-finals.

Most enjoyable aspect of the Q/F so far was Messi's first half display for Barca.

Surely the best player in the world by a country mile at the moment? Not only he is one of the most skillful and technically gifted players I have ever had the pleasure of watching, but he delivers end product. Goals and assists.

Barca fans are very very lucky to get to watch that every week.

I MUST ADMIT

Both Lampard and Essien were over-weight last night. It must be heavy running around with Gerrard and Alonso in your pocket.

This pains me to say it, but Chelsea were excellent last night. And that is my Chelsea praise quota expired for the next ten years.
