SSC's next destination...

by jonnyroyal1871 » 30 Aug 2009 00:15

Rumour in the west country tonight that Sturrock has gone at Plymouth, and SSC was spotted today in the home park directors box.

First part rumour, second part looks like it is true. For what that may or not mean. PAFC just taken over by a Japanese consortium, and money is available to spend.

That's interesting, I'm sure it's been posted somewhere else that Coppell was at our game in Barnsley.

Typical rumours when a club sacks a manager. Fans see alsorts all of a sudden.

Coppell couldn't work any magic at either of those clubs. I'm sure he'll bide his time a little longer.

Sir Steve is on Goals on Sunday tomorrow, so we may get a bit more insight into where he'll end up next!

Neither club has much in the way of funding. I just can't see it.

I'd say Plymouth is probably the more likely of the two. But I don't expect to see Coppell at a club until December.

If he was at our game, it was probably just to see us and what Rodgers is doing. If he was at Plymouth I would expect it was to enjoy watching a couple of different teams and see if he could learn anything.

If Coppell wanted to watch us, I can't see him travelling three hours up the M1 to do so, being a local, surely he'd pick a home game? But maybe... I'm sure Barnsley fans noticed all sorts of out work managers in their crowd today though...

He's going to be linked with every job outside of the big 4 (or 6). He can probably take his pick.

I'd be surprised if he takes a new job before Christmas.

I fancy a good laugh so maybe he'll take over at Barnsley or Plymouth.

And would you still be laughing if he went to either of those and they finished above us?

The Premiership years and last season I agree he lacked the backing he needed, but if you're comparing us with those two, then yes he did get a lot of funding here. Those two aren't even close.

Steve Coppell on SS1 now and he was watching Warrington play Rugby yesterday! Not at Barnsley.

He also said though that you either change the majority of the team, or you have to develop so much as a football club that the players don't want to leave, and remain happy playing for the club.

We couldn't afford to change the playing staff, and we certainly developed more than enough big egos which became a downfall.

Bit of a turnaround from his insistence that he wanted to keep loyal to the players and didn't want to change the team.

Lesson learned as far as he's concerned I suspect.
