Sanguine Is Thiago Silva the defender Chelsea need, or will he look his age once he is taken out of a dominant PSG team?

Still miffed that I said on here maybe 7-8 years ago that Silva was the best centre back in the world and one nobber laughed at me and said he wasnt even in the top x and that I didnt know what I was talking about.

I think there were better options out there, slightly cheaper ones too in terms of wages too. Bit surprised they didn't approach Vertonghen.

Certainly in terms of wages but not in terms of ability. PSG signed him just after he was named in the Serie A team of the season and the UEFA team of the season. They paid top dollar as he was already the finished article.

Chilwell to Chelsea for £50m.

Matt Doherty to Spurs for a rumoured £15m. Seems a little on the cheap side to me and I am not really sure why Wolves would want or need to sell. He seems fairly integral to their system.

Yeah, weird one that, he was virtually ever-present last season.

Terrific though that Bohemians have a 10% sell-on clause - the £1.5m is a massive cash injection for the club.

Can only think he might have had some sort of clause in contract that allowed him to leave for a bigger club or something. It is a really bizarre transfer otherwise.

He also meets the 'homegrown' criteria, having joined Wolves at 18, which means he fills a quota at Spurs (just like Hart did), and at the same time removes a homegrown player from Wolves squad.

Just reading it's £12m with add-ons. Odd.

Aaron Mooy leaves Brighton to go to China. Bit of an odd one that.

Reportedly trebled his wages to £60k a week after tax, about to turn 30 so possibly last chance at a big contract having spent much of his career not earning a lot for a footballer, and he has moved much nearer home (I am aware it's still not close, but likely does make a difference). A life changing contract for him and his family I guess.

Reportedly had negotiated a £4M release clause for Chinese clubs only into his Brighton contract. Clever lad.

Palace have made a great signing there getting Eze from QPR. One of our leagues top players and a good fit for them. If they keep Zaha that would be tasty.

Tottenham sign Doherty from Wolves

Decent player but not sure he’s the answer to Spurs’ defensive problems. At least he’ll provide some competition to Aurier I guess

Listened to a podcast this morning and they talked of Messi. Just journalists spaculating really but they made the point that Man City being part of a group of clubs gives them the advantage financially as they can move players and salaries between those clubs, with or without a transfer fee depending on whatever helps the situation.

Their suggestion was that if Messi joins City then the last year or so would likely be at their NY club to help the money side. He could also have a short term ambassadorial role at the City Group afterwards too with wages loaded up there.

I also learned that a burofax is not a fax but is the spanish name for a recorded delivery letter.

Also they said Italy has a kind of version of the old spanish 'beckham law' in place so if Inter signed Messi there would be low tax involved.

So, Reading could have a chance of getting him then.

Good signing that. Decent part of the Ajax team from a couple of years ago.

Presumably that means no Grealish then?

Does that make Man Utd's midfield options) Matic,Mata, Fernandes, Fred, Pogba and now De Beek) at about £300,000,000 the most expensive in world football?
With that lot and their very expensive defenders what can possibly stop them next season from walking away with the title?
