Adebayor expected to sign for Spurs, will be interesting to see if that effects the Defoe situation or not.

As ambitious and unlikely as it is, a massive yes for me if we have any chance of doing this deal.

Brian confirmed at the fans' forum last night that we spoke to Defoe, but he's too expensive.

Friday's Legacy I agree it's unlikely we'll get him, perhaps it's the pessimist in me, but why does what he says in a fans forum matter? That will be published by STAR in the next Reading Matter. You don't surely expect him to lay all his cards on the table to a room full of fans with twitter at their finger tips do you?

:|

He's told the FF things before or at the very least heavily hinted that he's denied in the press in fact he did it last year with the ALF deal

Fair enough. I'm not saying it definitely won't happen, just passing on information.

There are better areas in the team to be spending our transfer budget on anyway and these positions should take priority.

Obviously Mariappa is likely to pen to a deal today and I imagine Simpson will on monday if not today.

Any other signing would only be if an elite player was interested in joining and was available at a very good price sort of like RVV joining Spurs from Madrid on deadline. Could be a deadline day deal possibly depending on how Spurs transfer activity goes particularly in the striking department looks like they've got Adebayor now anyway.

Sat at the fans forum. Brian confirmed that we did call spurs but put it down when they confirmed the asking price.

Defoe spoke to Reading today. If that be regarding a loan or perm deal I don't know, but it's very reliable. BM as you'd expect will play it down, as we've seen in the past with Le Fondre and probably others.

Dont really want to get into this but...I have a Spurs contact and they texted me out of the blue today saying "Defoe talking to your lot today" so this is consistent with FL.

Anyone available to sit in the hotel all day to confirm this?

Elliott Why would he move? :|

Adebayor is only on loan at spurs so might not be there next season.
Defoe doesn't know who will be spurs manager next season, if Harry goes then Defoe might become the first choice striker with the new manager.
He might be playing for a champions league team next season.

On a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give this a solid unlikely.

spurs and city agreed a fee for adebayor to go to spurs permanent

Sorry, badly worded.

Was trying to say that he's told the FF things before that contradict what he's said to the press. He didn't say watch this space like he did with the Alf deal last year so I believe it's a no go as well.

Sounds like we're speaking to him then, so it all depends whether we're willing to match his wage demands and if he believes we're a club that could be successful.

FTR I personally think that BM will have been told to say things like "we can't afford him" etc, so as to play down our financial clout, as we won't want to be held to ransom.

Make no mistake about it, us signing a current England international striker would be the biggest signing in our history. Still can't see it happening as I would expect a better club than us coming in for him.

Something seems a little wrong with this statement, but I can't quite put my finger on it ....
