Pepe the Horseman 31? Would rather give Blackman a chance. Makes you wonder why we let Noel Hunt go as well.

We offered him a one-year deal. He wanted two years. Said he wanted security as he was (now is) getting married. He chose to leave.

Is there even a number for how many times better than Blackman he is in that case?

Well, there is.... But unless anyone has Prof Brian Cox on speed dial, it may be bit beyond us mere mortals to calculate.

I'm staggered that there are people here who wouldn't welcome Lambert with open arms and scenes of jubilation.

The season we were promoted I hated the bloke. Several times watching the Football League Show it became apparent Southampton hadn't had a good game - except for the late Lambert winner against the run of play. Mostly, Saints were pretty reliable and he was knocking them in, but what separated them from the playoffs (or even missing the playoff places) was Lambert scoring from nothing on their off-days.

If this happened (which I can't see TBF), I would raise my arms and praise the Lord. Hallelujah!

2005–2006 Rochdale. Scoring in 44% of appearances
2006–2009 Bristol Rvrs Scoring in 40% of appearances
2009– Southampton Scoring in 55% of appearances

With his last 3 teams he has scored in 48% of appearances. So nearly a goal every other game.

Using a linear trendline of goals scored per team he been at he should score in around 58% of appearances if he joins us this summer.

46 game season = 27 goals next year 8)

Or another way of looking at it, he has played more games for each club than the one before. Linear trendline he'll play 227 times for Reading scoring 123 goals, or 54% of games.

= averaging 25 goals a season for the next 5 years. Retiring a hero at 36. 8)

If you take his whole career into account then as a percentage of goals he has scored at each team using a linear trendline he should score in 66% of games.

And looking at appearances/goals using a linear trend he should make approximately 190 appearances and an exponential trend for the goals would be 278 goals. Scoring in 1.46% of appearances or almost a goal and a half every game. Playing just over 4 seasons for us [presumably retiring through injury early in the beginning of the 5th season] scoring 45 goals a season.

 Snowballing at its best.

How's that snowball?

But looking at those statistics, it is also clear that he works in increasing multiples of 64 (probably some binary thing going on), so he won't leave Southampton until 192 appearances. That means he will join us in the January window just after the Sunderland game. Disappointed, as I would have prefered him to have had pre-season with us, though he will at least play 256 games, finishing his career with us. Extrapolating statistics is fun.

Did I miss the advert for the position of Snowball's Executive Assistant? Seems to be a bit of auditioning going on here.

According to SS, Damiao is in talks with an unnamed premier league club and reports in Brazil think its southampton, so does this open up the door for Lambert to leave?:)

If he leaves Soton, do you really think another Prem team wouldn't come in for the highest scoring Englishman in the prem last season? He'd be an upgrade for all 3 of the promoted teams for a start.
