I can't see we desperately need a striker unless someone leaves.

Pog and Alf will bang in enough goals topped up by Blackman, HRK, McAnuff, Drenthe, Guthrie and McCleary. Not to mention Morrison owning every corner.

Where is the panic?

windermere_royal just because he scores goals in a micky mouse league doesn`t mean he will score a hatful down here.

Hooper scores goals in the SPL.. championship is a MUCH better league...honestly to me SPL is like league 2 in comparison or league 1 on a good day... typical QPR splashing their money about again... I could well see QPR doing a wolves.. really could.

Except when he was last in the league he scored 20 goals in 39 appearances

So yes, he can score a hatful down here!

I'm not going to say he is worth the sily money figures flying around, however, the SPL is a league on a par with the Championship/League 1 and he averages 2 goals every 3 games. He has also scored 7 goals in Europe. The most relevant statistic is probably the 19 goals in 35 games he scored in the Championship for Scunthorpe in his last season for them. 19 goals in 35 games for a team that nearly got relegated, a team that was one of the five worst in the division. 19 goals in 15 games, better than 1 in 2. Anyone want to remind me which one of our players did that when we got promoted as Champions?

I think the fact we wont match an offer from QPR proves we have no plans to spend big this summer. If ever there is a striker that you can say "if the right player came along..." like we've heard before, then he is it, but at the rumoured £5m fee, we are nowhere to be seen. We probably did make an offer, but we wanted to spread the cost over far too long, or wanted to pay some on promotion, staying up etc; neither of which are guaranteed and Celtic would be right to say feck off.

We are more like to be after the Sharp's for £1m. Also that German defender being on trial this week that SPARTA talked about, another low budget or free type signing.. Not that they're a bad thing, but the point is we wont be spending a great deal in transfer fees..

Probably something to this JD. I am seeing similarities this close season with the last, a lot of noise about big signings, then some deals done for £2-3M and free transfers. Not that I am saying £2-3M is insignificant, or that the free transfers are rank.

The fact that he is even better than 'The Beast' really makes my point for me I feel.

Royals boss Nigel Adkins in Gary Hooper hunt

READING manager Nigel Adkins has asked his board to cough up the cash for Celtic hitman Gary Hooper.

The Royals boss wants to team up again with his former Scunthorpe United striker at the Madjeski Stadium.

He has given a list of summer targets to Reading’s owner, Russian billionaire Anton Zingarevich, and the 31-goal Hoops frontman is right at the top of it.

Adkins made two bids for Hooper when he was manager of Southampton and now he wants the 25-year-old to spearhead Reading’s Championship title challenge – as they look to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Express Sport revealed that top-flight new boys Hull City have already declared an interest in the English frontman, while Sunderland have also been linked with Hooper. Norwich and QPR are no longer in the running.

Hooper is keen to move and is in the last 12 months of his contract. Celtic have to decide whether to sell him now or lose him for nothing next year.

Would be mightily impressed if we pulled this one off.

Just goes to show what load of old bollox is written in the press this time of year.... Or perhaps what the board think about backing your new manager....

Fee agreed, far from done deal as personal terms need to be agreed. Now the bid has been accepted, that may force the hand of other interested parties who may then bid.
