Orion1871 Captain Scarlett set to join Ipswich on loan.

Ballard deal to collapse last thing tomorrow then.

Wareham looks very good in the U21 highlights, not sure why we would need someone else's youngster.

Chelsea released Wareham so he is OOC and would be our player if he signs. Looks good so perhaps the sticking point is what wages we are prepared to offer.

Personally I would much rather we signed freebies than loan players and built our squad for the long term.

Appreciate its being a killjoy, but we struggle month to month paying our wages, why on earth do we think we can afford an even bigger headcount?

Any incomings will have very little impact on the wage bill I’d imagine. Extra 5-10k a month max I’d expect. Don’t think it’ll be that which will stop Dai paying the bills

Has he got a football ball tucked under his shirt.

Is that a swear on his shirt, thought football was trying to promote family atmospheres these days?

Carroll gone

We can confirm that striker Andy Carroll has triggered a release clause in his contract to terminate his deal with the Royals with immediate effect.

We would like to thank Andy for his contribution to the club and wish him the very best of luck in his next challenge

Good thing with Ballard is he already has experience of playing alongside an Ehibhatiomhan this season for Southampton U21s so he'll feel right at home

Don't know much about him, but seems to be more like Vickers than Ehib in style of play. Scores a lot in the U21 league, so hopefully he can get some goals for us. Selles seems to like him, given he featured in three matches under Selles at Southampton last season (twice in the league; all from the bench).

If our first team strikers are Ehib, Smith, Vickers and Ballard for the season, I'd be content with that; would like to see Wareham and Billie Clark signed - although I reckon both would likely be U21 players for the most part this season.

A couple of recent mentions by randomers on Twitter of us being linked to 22-year-old English defender (LB)/defensive midfielder Clinton Mola (free agent)

Would be a decent signing - was at Stuttgart for the past three years, where he made the odd appearance, after coming through the Chelsea academy. He played for all the England youth teams, between U16 and U21 inclusive.

Seems to be of a fairly similar ability as Guinness-Walker, so would clearly only be signed if NGW does leave the club; he's about eighteen months younger than NGW - so may have more room for development.

Although I wouldn't read too much into mentions from randos on Twitter.

Would getting a LB/LWB who can actually defend a bit be out of the question?

Last day of window, doesn't it shut earlier for FL clubs than PL clubs for some totally inexplicable reason?

Lots of good reasons - to give Chelsea some extra time to buy some more young midfielders for inflated prices? To make sure the FL knows their place? To make sure a Prem club can make a last minute purchase of a FL player so they do not have time to replace him?

Lots of good reasons.

... 19 year old left back/right back John Ryan has left Sassuolo and is signing for Reading

Earnshaw -

John Ryan was on trial and featured in a pre-season friendly. Would most likely link up with the U23s, similar to Rushesha
