Well, did he prove himself at Roma?

and he may have been managing the Barcelona B team, but Dolan has managed our u12s.

Well he wasn't sacked but didn't qualify them for europe but he must have done something to be chosen by them

Interviews well? A big name and a calculated risk in taking a punt on and underperformed by the standards that they expected?

and if he gets the job here then he'll have done something to be chosen by them.

Then again, so must the likes of Shearer, Dowie... etc etc.

Unproven, is surely someone with no knowledge/experience of the top teams/divisions........the fact he was at Barca B and then Roma means he is proven :D

Proven would surely be defined by success?

Kids at Barcelona? - would you call that a success?

Roma? - left as he didn't meet objectives?

I'm not sure in managerial terms you could call him proven, but it's an exciting prospect and one I'd welcome.

Royal Dee
yappy His spell at Roma is far from inspiring.... (I am basing this on his Wiki page and this article referenced on it: http://fourfourtwo.com/blogs/serieaaaaargh/archive/2012/04/26/luis-enrique-s-roma-experiment-going-up-in-smoke.aspx)

My friend that follows Italian football said he was not given enough time and was expected to produce results and win the league. He was appointed after a take over of the club and with a new rich owner he was allowed to build his own team which consisted of players like Bojan, Heinze and John arne riise. The season was not what they expected but still only missed out on European football by a couple of points finishing 7th which is nothing to be ashamed about. Overall he should of been given more time since it probably took the firs year to get the team to gel etc... If antons willing to put up the money, this will be a great appointment for us.

Exactly this, as I understand it then Roma wanted to create a long term project but had a change of heart when the results weren't forthcoming. If he is employed on a long term basis and backed fully by the owner then I will be totally behind him, however it would be risky, risky, risky.

LOL at comparing Barcelona B to our u12's
The Barcelona B team would probably be good enough to get out of the Championship.
Roma to Reading is a big step down for him

Based on that Enrique in!

The thought of trying to deploy that with our current squad would be horrific though. I can only really see the likes of Mariappa, Ledge, Jobi/HRK, Cummings or Gunter fitting into that approach. and Carriço from that philosophy, if he is good / fit enough.

IN for some of this

Enrique says, “When Roma got to know me, they got to know me as an offensive coach who likes to attack, who likes good football. The important thing is that the fans come to watch us, that they enjoy themselves. It’s a very attractive way of playing. We will play on the attack. I don’t consider football any other way. We are moving towards a complete change of ideas and identity…I haven’t come here to bring the Barcelona model, but something that is similar to it.”

But imagine the quality of players this guy would attract, maybe a few Barca B players on loan, for me this would be a interesting signing

Isn't that what Anton has alluded to several times, he sees Reading as a "project ". Given that basis Luis could very well be a good match for us so long as he is given the time required (3 year minimum) plus the backing and full support of the board both financially and professionally.

Hoping, therefore, that this is more than some punter with more money than sense pulling some random name out of the air.

If this appointment were to happen (and I'd dearly love it to) it sounds like what we tried to do under Rodgers. Thing is, the fans were so knee jerk that the 'project' then wasn't allowed to continue. We all know how that ended for both parties (well ironically) but hopefully this time around we will realise that 10 years of playing hard working get-it-to-the-wingers football will not adapt overnight.

As far as I can see, the only positive of pointing Enrique would be the fact that - born in Gijon - he'd be the first ever Reading manager to come from a town which sounds like a noise made by a horse, after Irishmen Charlie Hurley and Brendan Rodgers previously both failed to be born in Bray.
