LOL @ 'we can dream'.

Got the Barca B job presumably on the back of a successful playing career with them, football being rife with nepotism. That is a high profile job in itself believe it or not, so he got an opportunity at Roma which he singularly failed to take, leading one of Italy's biggest clubs to a midtable season.

So yeah, he's bound to be a success at Reading :|

I honestly don't care that he'd be an utter failure at Reading. He's one of my favourite players of all time and I want to be near him.

A lot of this has to do with the ambition of Anton and how much cash hes willing to splash out and time period for this to work

Well we sacked McDermott at a strange time, so why the hell not... Adkins would be a great appointment however he was very similar to McDermott.

Anton pulling some strings, with his naivety and lack of experience, may think someone like Enrique would be the right man for the job...

Regardless of success, this would be a coup for us, it would also give Anton and the club reasons to tell us to be patient - "We need to give him time" "Not expecting immediate promotion" would drop fans expectations very nicely.

16 years ago, when Quinn and Gooding were sacked, we were linked with Bernd Schuster

PistolPete If this appointment were to happen (and I'd dearly love it to) it sounds like what we tried to do under Rodgers. Thing is, the fans were so knee jerk that the 'project' then wasn't allowed to continue.

Yeah he'd likely be on a very short leash before the boo-birds started.

And if he's going to want or need money to spend, he may want to look elsewhere. :P

Vital football and Daily Mirror sites both reporting the story

Sky Bet have installed the 42-year old as fourth favourite, behind leading candidates Nigel Adkins, Phil Parkinson and current caretaker boss Eamonn Dolan. Enrique is probably unknown to many in English football, but will probably be more renowned to those in Serie A and possibly in Spain.

Enrique, who had a very successful playing career in Spain, decided to take up coaching in 2008 and managed Barcelona B, taking over from Pep Guardiola. He took over at Roma in 2011, but only lasted a season in Italy, leaving in the summer of 2012. With great thanks to Zonal Marking, here is a tactical overview of Enrique's philosophy at Roma.

There is certainly no smoke without a fire, so there is something certainly going on concerning the Spaniard and the vacant post. Only time will tell. It is still worth noting that Nigel Adkins is still the overwhelming favourite with all bookmakers to take the job

http://www.reading.vitalfootball.co.uk/ ... z2NzrOVURS

Former Spain star Luis Enrique has emerged as a shock contender to become Reading's new manager.

Reading's Russian owner Anton Zingarevich has added the ex-Barcelona and Real Madrid ace to his list of targets to replace the sacked Brian McDermott.

Enrique retired from playing in 2004 - after being named by Pele as one of the 125 greatest living footballers.

In 2008 he replaced Pep Guardiola as coach of Barcelona B before taking charge of Italian outfit Roma at the start of the 2011-12 season.

Enrique, 42, has been out of work since leaving Roma last summer after they failed to qualify for Europe.

Zingarevich is ready to turn to Enrique after top target Roberto di Matteo rejected the chance to manage the Premier League strugglers.

Ruthless Zingarevich sacked McDermott despite leading the Royals to promotion last season and winning the manager of the month award as recently as January.

It has been revealed long-standing chairman John Madejski and director of football Nicky Hammond pleaded with the Berkshire-educated businessman to spare McDermott.

Madejski reportedly told fans attending the club-sponsored Reading half marathon caretaker-chief Eamonn Dolan had been 'thrown in at the deep end'.

Zingarevich - who had hoped to name McDermott's successor before the weekend defeat at Manchester United - has also been knocked back in an approach for Brighton boss Gus Poyet

He was given leeway because everyone (mostly) could see what he was trying to do. Only frustrations came from his David Brentism's and lack of results. I'd have been quite happy to get relegated and in theory come back stronger for the type of football we'd be playing in the long run. Obviously the clubs directors disagreed but hey ho.

I remember this, I'm sure there was something mentioned about Mr Mad going into spasm when Schuster mentioned the budget and players he wanted.

The football is dull because we weren't very good at it yet. Score a few goals and you start to forgive the boring bits before... That's what I tell myself anyway.

What's dull about passing the ball around, frustrating the opposition, and creating space to then exploit and have a pop at goal? Some people might prefer gung-ho football, but I'm all for some nice football that teams struggle to play against. We just need an end product!

He got an absolutely horrendus time at QPR away iirc. And I don't think the second half of Posh away was overly positive either.

Those two games being the ones that turned me from cautious optimism about him to total disallusionment and dislike.
