Harpers So Solid Crew Have heard a rumour that the idea is for him to join as a mentor for Mcdermott, so not full time, leaving him with chances to do other things a swell. Initially until the end of this season.

What part time like the consultant Frank Lampard Snr who obviously added no value to the club - should be full time or no time

Part time as involved with training a couple of days a week, helping McD prepare the team for games, and impating knowledge to McD from his own experiences.

Always feel that part-time with "other" interests - you never get the 100% commitment in the time - thats all

I work with a Wolves fan and he like Hoddle but said a lot of his problems were caused by the players that were signed before he joined and that due to contract lengths he had to work with them. A bit like Pardew with us ne also credits Hoddle with starting their revival that McCarthy continued.

And what baggage?

I'm not sure what some Reading fans expect.
A couple of years ago when we were a lower-to-middle range Premiership club having finished 8th in the previous season we would have attracted some top quality applicants but 2 years on we are a Championship side in danger of slipping away to the third tier.
I have felt for some time that the club needs a solid experienced manager who has been around, knows the ropes and has some good connections in the game, a kind of Southern Billy Davies.

As Southbank said earlier,Hoddle used to be arrogant, possibly because even in his late 30s and early 40s he was still better than many of the players that he was managing.
It could well be that with his recent experience of coaching scrap-heap youngsters he has become better at coaching younger players and he has tried to get them jobs with pro clubs in the UK which presumably means that he has remained in touch with the English game and particularly at the lower levels.
Having done that he may have recognised some of the better players at those clubs who could be ready to step up at reasonable prices.

His playing and managerial experience is widespread and it's not every day that we could be getting an ex-England manager and IIRC didn't he get Swindon to The Premiership (or whatever the top level was then)?
That surely must rate as big an achievement as Steve Coppell for us.

As we have learnt long ago our opinion means nothing but FWIW I'm in the pro-Hoddle camp and presumably that would lead to a return for John Gorman who also has a good understanding of what is needed at this level.

Wycombe Royal And what baggage?

Might be referring to Eileen the faith healer and his christian beliefs about disabled people.

Jeez that baggage was left behind years ago, and even then it was blown out of all proportion.

People really need to move on.......

I would go with Hoddle but like another person posted on here i would have the worry that if he did well for us and a bigger club came in for him then he would drop us like a stone. I think he would want to do well for Reading but more for himself than the club. Maybe i am being a bit negative but thats how he seems to be.

I think if he was in it for himself he would have got back in to manage before now....

I expect he has been busy setting up his Academy which is one of the reasons why i dont expect him to come back to management anyway.

Close relationship with Hammond.

Strong links between the academy as well. Couple of our lads have gone out there and they play us in friendlies whenever they come over to this country.

Hoddle's always maintained he doesn't want to return though...
