I keep hearing that Kermorgant has done a good job defensively even if he didn't score, he's only scored one more than McShane who also does a good job in defence. We need someone who can out-run a defender AND put the ball in the back of the net, he doesn't seem to be doing much of either!

Jordan Rhodes on loan for the rest of the season would be an idea esp. if the Chinese take away goes through. Could well be the fit we need up front as well.

Wednesday fans have been convinced for a few months that he is joining them in Jan. They also have a pic of him sitting in a stadium which they claim is theirs at a recent game.

A Blackburn fan I work with used to tell me that their fans gave Rhodes stick. Gestede was apparently much more liked and even though they got a gr8 goal return on Rhodes he was generally viewed as lazy. That was said to me while he was there and not a swipe at him after he left.

Given fans are constantly crying out for a 'proven goalscorer' (despite very few of them in our price range actually existing), maybe we should sign Rhodes just to keep them quiet, or at least so they can move on to complaining about something else

His goalscoring record is pretty mental though, since he joined Huddersfield it goes...

If we start signing/renewing on the basis of what our fans want, there could be very interesting times ahead. E.g., we would simultaneously be renewing Danny Williams, selling him in January, letting him run down his contract, having his babies and taking him outside and shooting him.

Is there a single prospective or existing player that would unite the fan-base?

How many of those are penalties though? Not saying he has not been prolific, but I think he scores a few of his goals from pens.

I'm reasonably confident about what January will bring. The Thais backed Steve Clarke in the transfer market, got burnt, and probably thought they'd wait and see how Stam does before loosening the purse strings.
Now that Stam has proved himself beyond almost anybodies' expectations thus far, I'd be fairly confident that our striker problem will be addressed. Our transfer record would probably have to be broken to get anyone half decent in this market, but if we're gonna break it on anyone, may as well be the fabled '20 goals a season' striker!

The question is who? Rhodes would of course be ideal, but all the top Champ sides will be thinking the same. I'm a fan of Afobe, he was great for Wolves.
I would prefer someone proven in this league, rather than someone obscure from the continent. Then again, I said that about our manager!

If he scores lots of pens then that's probably a good thing with our record

Bournemouth overpaid (as they are wont to do) and his stock has fallen since then, although I agree I'll be surprised if we can afford him.

I just think what with the talk of a Chinese takeover and the demonstrable success of Stam so far that there is reason to be optimistic about the January transfer window.

And proven championship strikers that can't get a game at lower-end Prem clubs are the most obvious targets for those of us who aren't international scouts- Afobe, Grabban, Campbell, Rhodes et al.
