New Contracts

Heard on SkySports that we are in talks with Kebe over a new deal, as well as McAnuff, Mills and Long :)

Either means we'll get a bit more money if they go this summer, or if they stay we won't lose them on a free next summer :)

Well sign Waghorn to replace McAnuff
keep the others and have a front line
four who can score 70 goals. That'll do! :D

I'd keep Jobi, put Waghorn on the bench and demote HRK (who has never impressed me) to Antonio's spot, and scrap Antonio altogether.

Certainly agree with scrapping Antonio, though I think you're being slightly unfair to HRK given his most recent form.

Another factor in the contract talks will be age. Mills and Long have time on their side, so as long as the pay packet this year is acceptable, I actually think they could ride out another year with little danger to their careers.

Kebe is the problem. He's 28 this year and he (or his agent more like) could be thinking this is his last chance to get a nice juicy 4 yr contract somewhere - certainly not with us.

McAnuff is 30 this year. He too could well go where the money is. I doubt anyone will offer him a long termer at his age, so he could take the money and run.

Yes I know the majority are resigned to long going due to the funds we could get, but I actually think kebe and Jobi are more likely to go.

I thought Waghorn was a striker?

I don't see what he's done in the last few weeks to give everyone the impression that he is a good player. He makes far to many errors and this leads to people being surprised when he doesn't mess up. In my opinion I'd play Taylor ahead of HRK.

This would be great if we can get them to sign new deals.

If they are sold, they will be sold for more - so it is a massive win win for the club.

I have been silent about this whole Shane Long leaving ordeal, and as much as I would never begrudge him a move to progress in his career - he owes Reading. Big time. Only a lower league club would have persisted with him like Reading did. Sure - he showed potential, but thousands of fans (boo boys or what have you) could not all have been wrong in their frustrations! For a while - he was utter gash. And good on him for getting out of that, and proving what potential he really does have.

This season has been immense for Shane. sure he did not score many goals before December (I was at Derby when he scored the 2 that got him on his way!) but by all accounts - he played brilliantly in every game.

Mike, the stats may surprise you

This season he played 42.5% of all his career minutes and got 45.54% of his goals. (25/55)

So there hasn't been that much of a change except playing a lot more minutes (and two of his previous seasons were in the Prem.

I'd rather play a striker up front and a winger on the wing. The amount of goals they get isn't the most important thing about a winger.

Just had a text from the club saying the masseur has just signed a new 2 year deal*. It's good the club are getting the important people tied down, that create the foundation for this gr8 club.

It's a mixture. They need to be able to give us breathing space by holding ball
they need to worry defences, make passes, get in great crosses, tackle back
but if they are perceived as NOT a goal threat...

If they can get assists AND goals

71 (16) 35 Goals/Assists 2009-11 KEBE
85 (00) 24 Goals/Assists 2009-11 McANUFF

So in 1,000 more minutes on the pitch McAnuff had 11 less goals/assists. That's one helluva difference.
Wingers who take lots of shots and miss the target/fail to score are wasteful of possession.

38 (03) 09 Goals 07 Assists Total 16 2010-11 Kebe
33 (13) 12 Goals 07 Assists Total 19 2009-10 Kebe

44 (00) 04 Goals 08 Assists Total 12 2010-11 McAnuff
41 (00) 03 Goals 09 Assists Total 12 2009-10 McAnuff

Remind me of how many goals our best right winger of recent times scored?

LITTLE

33 (06) 08 Assists 00 Goals
34 (04) 14 Assists 05 Goals
20 (08) 10 Assists 00 Goals

87 (18) = 90 Games 32 Assists and 5 Goals

Compare:

71 (16) = 74 Games for 35 Goals/Assists 2009-11 KEBE
87 (18) = 90 Games for 37 Goals/Assists 2004-07 LITTLE
85 (00) = 85 Games for 24 Goals/Assists 2009-11 McANUFF

Kebe comes out a lot better than Little (on goals and assists) and McAnuff is way down on both of them.

Compare, Little general work rate and turning up I'd say in the 90% of matches with Kebes 50% and McAnuff some where inbetween say 75%. In the grand scheme of things none of them are goal machines.
