The EP thinks different:
Kebe set to leave Reading FC this month
By Jonny Fordham
January 04, 2012

Jimmy Kebe's days at Reading look numbered with manager Brian McDermott admitting he may be forced to sell his star winger.

Contract-rebel Kebe refused an offer to become Royals’ highest earner earlier this season and the club’s director of football Nick Hammond has already rejected a bid for the 27-year-old, believed to be from Championship rivals West Ham United. Leicester City have previously also shown an interest.

McDermott and Hammond previously insisted that Kebe would not be sold, but will now look to spark a bidding war during the January transfer window rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.

McDermott told the Reading Post: “We either have to do a contract here, or my gut feeling, is that if a contract is not signed at Reading, then something will happen somewhere else.

“There will be interest from other parties, I know that. We’ve had interest and we’ve had a bid. We turned it down, but that’s all I will say.”

GetReading (or the Evening Post, whatever it's called now) and Jonny Fordham have much more previous with getting these things right and as Fordham points out every week they are "the only Reading paper at all home and away games" so do often seem to have more of a direct interest and more knowledge when it comes to RFC

I seem to recall the Chronicle saying we were very close to signing Adel Taarabt when Rodgers first got the job here.

Depends on which way you spin this - Fordham has taken the more sensationalist "he might leave" angle....

It largely depends how you read Brian's "gut feeling" statement....

You could read it that his gut feeling is that Kebe will go....

Alternatively, you could also read it that he feels that Jimmy will go IF a new contract isn't agreed....

Given that the club must be fully aware of what Kebe wants from a new contract, and that he "holds the cards" you could read it (particularly with McD talking about keeping the group together) that Kebe will be offered what he wants...

If that is the case, then whether he stays or goes will probably depend on whether the players head has been turned by interest from other clubs....

Jackson Corner Whats a hore?

"Hore" is the Norwegian word for "Whore". I suppose it is less offensive to use "hore".

Just want to say that Kebe is being portrayed as the bad one here and that he's not happy. I see him a lot in reading as most of you do and he's always looking happy and willing for a chat, if only brief. Kebe is a guy that needs to be loved and he currently doesn't feel loved!!

So what I'm saying is lets put a gun to his head and say sign. Then love him !!

When players are coming up for contract renewal, they usually play that little bit better; can't say I've noticed that with Kebe.

Speaking personally, I don't want any player to think that they are bigger than the club; if he wants to go unless we pay him what he wants and we aren't prepared to pay him that sum, then lets get rid off asap otherwise the whole thing becomes a long drawn out saga (something that thankfully didn't happen with Long, Mills or Doyle).

Once that happens we can then use the resources to stregthen the squad in key areas whilst at the same time saying to HRK "Ok Hal, you have the rest of the season to make yourself the first name on the team sheet" and then if he doesn't, we know where to look for a new player in the Summer.
