LoyalRoyalFan According to the Reading Chronicle, Karacan (out of contract next summer) has rejected an offer of a new contract.

Off this summer then?

Says here it's because of other players wages...

So could just want more money, to be in line with other players. Which you could argue is fair enough. He's got another year - 1 season of success with the squad in the Premiership and how could he leave?!

It'll all blow over.

Next we'll have Church demanding wage parity with POG

Karacan doesn't currently command £30k a week ...however, he has the opportunity next season to prove he does..

The new Steve Sidwell.

Lets hope he will at least be like Sidwell and play all the way to the end if he does eventually leave.

Lets hope he is a Sidwell rather than a Shorey. Will have to be on his game as he is by no means a certain starter in the team, whereas Shorey could put in no effort as he knew there was n´t another left back in the club.

You're always going to reject the first offer anyway. Of course now we're PL he know he can get some extra cash and to be honest he deserves it more as he's was one of the main players to help us win the Championship.

You cannot blame a player for wanting to better himself but realistically we should only be offering Karacan about 50% of whatever we are paying Pog and Guthrie. They are more proven at a higher level whereas he is not.

If he has a great season then he would deserve a pay increase but otherwise no - the club are right to offer less.

Sadly this is the problem with the PL and what cost us our place last time. Players get greedy and unrealistic as soon as the £ signs appear. The only way a club like RFC can survive long term is either a/ finding a rich benefactor who likes losing millions each year (like Wigan), b/ borrowing loads of money and eventually going bust like Pompey or c/ being a yo yo club (like Wolves and West Brom).

You are right you can't blame him but if nothing gets agreed are we not better off selling? Never seen logic in keeping player when you know he is definately off, where would his motivation really be?

Could we not offer him a new X year contract above what he gets at the moment but with a promise that it will be re-visited at the end of the season should we still be in the Premier League/if he has played a significant number of Premier League games. Can't see if though, as players these days too often think that winning the Championship makes them a Premier league player authomatically rather than proving it out on the pitch.

The mysterious case of John Salako proves that if you're on a scheme linked to number of appearances your season tends to end at that number minus one.

Sorry, I did not make myself clear, what I was more meaning was that he would get a revised contract if his Premier League performance level justified it (and presumably if we stayed in it!!)

Player in rejection of first contract offer shock

Time to worry is if he's does well in the PL and is still "negotiating" in January.
