Reading FC eye Porto defender David Bruno

Royals had scouts watching the 22-year-old play against Borussia Monchengladbach last week

Reading are keeping tabs on young Portuguese defender David Bruno.

The 22-year-old plays for Porto’s B team, who are currently competing in the Premier League International Cup.

The competition is a four-group tournament involving some of the top Premier League Under-21s teams and elite developments sides from across Europe.

Porto were in action last Wednesday when they played German side Borussia Monchengladbach at Aldershot.

And Reading had scouts at the game monitoring Bruno, according to reports in Portugal.

He is mainly used as a right-back but can operate across the defence. He has been capped internationally at U18 and U19 level and has also featured for the U21s, although not in a competitive game.

Bournemouth are also said to be looking at Bruno, whose contract with Porto expires in 2016.

type of more intelligent signing we are likely to see under Clarke, not just looking at what is on our doorstep but further a field. players with potential without the mental price tag and wage bill. yes from me

Gunter and Pearce

1 player, 1 wage, 2 positions. Why pay to field 11? That's using the old noodle.

Still watching him, from the GetReading site :

Reading scouts continue to keep tabs on Portuguese defender David Bruno.

The 22-year-old plays for Porto’s B team, who are currently competing in the Premier League International Cup.

Royals have watched the right-back on several occasions throughout the tournament and are in attendance at this evening’s final to see him in action against Manchester City.

He is mainly used on the right but can operate across the defence. He has been capped internationally at U18 and U19 level and has also featured for the U21s, although not in a competitive game.

Reading are focusing heavily on the Portuguese transfer market, with the club’s Thai owners having strong links in the country.

To be fair to Carrico, he is a more than decent player. I can only assume it was a sackload of Roubles that convinced him to slum it with us.
