Probably the best player in the second half of the season, would be a shrewd signing.

Can't see the value in getting both Chalobah and Fernandez on loan,.

If he's coming it has to be as first choice central midfield. He can't also cover right back as it would, by definition, mean weakening the midfield to cover a peripheral position which has to be the wrong wY of doing things.
If we need right back cover we need to sign a right back or utility back. Or use Hector there. Not even consider using a first choice midfielder to fill in.

SC has denied the comments made by the Espanyol chief the other day.

I'd imagine it's one or the other.

Advantage of Fernandez was though that it was a loan-to-buy agreement - so if he does well, we can buy him at a set price. With Chalobah we'd just be developing a player for another team ...

I'm not sure it's an either/or tbh. Seem like very different types of players.

He is too good not to get back in. He does a lot of the ugly stuff really well so may not impress the Bigfoots of this world but he is a class player that will get the better of his opposing number in most games he plays.

This seems utterly pointless. Chalobah had some great games in the cup but in the league he rarely impressed. We can't take a £35,000 p/w player on loan as full-back cover, even if we're not paying his whole wage.
andrew1957 Would feel very sorry for Tshibola if this happens. Think Tshibola has done everything we have asked of him and he is only 5 weeks younger than Chalobah. If anything he has been let down by the RFC Academy system which tends to loan players out a lot later than Chelsea. Chalobah is therefore much more experienced than Tshibola but I am not sure that he is that much better.
Chalobah was playing in the Championship at 17. If we wanted Tshibola to be, then we shouldn't have sent him on loan - we should have played him ourselves, ahead of the likes of Jake Taylor, Michael Hector, Jobi McAnuff, and Hope Akpan.
And if Chalobah's loan does include the option of a permanent move then what future does Tshibola have at the club as they are very similar players.

Chalobah is a converted centre back and tends to play an anchor role. Tshibola is a converted winger and so pushes on more. I think they could form a good midfield partnership.

I'd be more worried about Kuhl's chances, because he is basically a lightweight version of Chalobah.

If he does come back it spells doom for Tshibola and Norwood (the latter once Williams comes back in off the wing). Suggests to me that Clarke actually thinks we're in someway going to be able to challenge the top six. No point in bringing him in to the detriment of the rest of the squad otherwise.

The thing is, we all know Chalobah is on £30k at Chelsea. Now, I'd imagine Reading would subsidise £10k of that, which Chelsea might do if they thought we were developing him, but the likelihood of him signing permanently is slim, unless he got us promoted.

On the other hand, I love the idea of a midfield in a few years of Kuhl, Chalobah and Tshibola!

Signing him permanently is probably out of the question. Probably £5m+

Brentford only paid £750k for McEchran, who seems to have a similar CV.

I heard that last season he was on £25k per week at Chelsea of which we paid £20k when he was with us. Chelsea have this season put his salary up to £40k, this is the stumbling block at the moment.

But he could quite easily play for a Villa, Newcastle, Leicester, Palace.........there is no chance we could sign him, unless we go up

I was led to believe that when we had a player on loan, if they played we didn't pay their wages but if they didn't play we did.
