NewCorkSeth Ah well. Hopefully a lesson for all the twitter fans giving it large to other clubs supporters about this signing. Don't celebrate too early.

I know its face saving now but do we really want a player who just jumps at the opportunity to play for another club? Trained with us for 4 weeks but doesn't fancy staying part of a team who have just won the first 3 games of the season? Big meh.

It depends. He needs to know where he stands and we cannot tell him. The season has started and he wants some certainty. Can’t blame him.

Well. Cant be that hard to say "be patient bro. We just lost Swift for 3 months. You are guaranteed to get good playing time".

There are no guarantees here Sethmondo. We cannot assure him he can sign for us at the moment.

Zip We need to cut our losses on some players and move them on ASAP.

Why would they leave ? We're paying them way over the odds, so they're not going to move on to a lower wage just to help us.

Baldock, Aluko and Walker all expire in 12 months time, while McNulty seems to be happy to move back to Scotland. Undo the mess of Gourlay one step at a time, though the Dai's clearly have no interest in moving on other high earners.

Oh I get that but let’s face it. The mess we are isn’t just down to Gourlay.

Yep. It was the owners who turned down £10m for Moore and put him on £35k p/w. Also see Loader. I won't add Meite to that list, as his goals in 18/19 in all probability kept us up.

But Gourlay added rocket fuel to our owners' impulses, when what they really need is sensible executives to rein them in (which it seems the EFL are doing for us now Howe has been sacked)

It does look like we are under some sort of embargo again which is no bad thing. It will mean the EFL will not authorise reckless spending although we had this last season and ended up having a spending splurge before the window closed. All a bit odd.

The worry is that how can the EFL see signing an U23 player from Atletico Madrid on loan as reckless spending. Alternatively, the worry is that we were offering stupid wages to an U23 player from Atletico Madrid on loan. What chance do we have of signing more experienced players, either on loan or permanently? I wonder what we need to do to meet the EFL's conditions?

Naturally if he signs for us I hope he is a massive success, scores loads of goals and gets many assists.

If he signs for Bournemouth I hope he flops massively and scores 10 own goals when they play us.

We once spent 2.5m to bring Vydra in on loan for a year. We have no idea what the agreed loan fee was for Riquelme. Say it was 1m, I can see a case where the EFL would say, why are you spend 1m you don't have on a player that you can't make any profit on. If we were looking to buy him, that might be different as he would most likely have a sell on value, hopefully greater than what we paid.

How much of his wages would we have been expected to cover, what are his wages? Would we be covering the amount in his old contract or the new contract he has just signed.

There are a multitude of reasons why the EFL may not be happy with this prospective signing given our well documented issues with FFP.

Stranded If he is going elsewhere so be it but as said, there must be an underlying reason why this deal hasn't gone through but the Gibson one did - must be cost. Perhaps there was an expectation of a large loan fee for him or an obligation to buy for X million that meant the EFL wouldn't sign it off.

Ejaria was probably only allowed to go through as we had entered into a legally binding contract to purchase him - this may well have annoyed the EFL so as to not allow any further registrations without players leaving.

Some nationals are reporting that we are also in prime position for Piggott but that can only happen if squad players move on.

Looks like we are paying for the largese of previous CEOs or one particular CEO.

It's infuriating we're still paying for Gourlay's shitness.

Think we're paying for Dai's couldn't give a oxf*rd about finances attitude personally.

Can't lay Puscas, Joao, Cabral and Ejaria at Gourlay's door.

Last year we did enough to appease the FL then went on an immediate spending spree and continued to pay wages way above acceptable levels.

No wonder they won't give us an inch after that two fingered salute.

After Kia’s interview on TalkSport earlier, it’s just as well the EFL have placed us under a soft embargo, as he really would take us to the cleaners.

This is more than about Riquelme, understandable some people are getting a bit upset over it (although we’ve never seen the bloke play), but the long term financial health of the club is far more important

We have to sell players and that’ll only change once Dai changes his approach

We do have to sell players although ironically the one player we sold for a decent fee in Mo Barrow is someone we really needed to keep a hold of. We don’t have a single winger in the squad.

Difference is every one of those players is a key part of the team, with the possible exception of Puscas, and all have at least retained and at best increased their value.

The Gourlay signings were expensive and they were a load of rubbish.

That's fair.

We got some good players in previously but the hit rate and value was poor.

Yiadom was an excellent Clement / Tevreden / Gourlay signing iirc.... er actually struggling now. That's damning.

I agree with this, but the potential ironic sting in the tail is that Dai was open about wanting to spend money to get us up this season.

If that doesn't/can't happen he'll be more likely to cut his losses and move on. I'm not saying he will, but that has to be a consideration. His patience won't be limitless.

Bit surprised Beijing Renhe haven't been used as a quick means of getting players off the books if things are that desperate.

If he doesn't learn that trying to throw money at instant promotion is a bad idea the sooner he goes the better and hopefully we can get a replacement with more sense than money.

I am wondering why everyone is surprised by this....
We have had 2 seasons in a row in which we have over spent and had soft embargos to contend with, we have lost a third of our wage bill but this does not mean we are now in the clear, as with every business when you over spend 2 years in a row it takes time to recover and it will take probably this whole year to put us in the clear.

the best we can expect is that we manage to loan out a couple of players not needed in the squad and replace them with lower league free transfers that are not demanding a lot of wages and the odd loan. also my hope is to get the good youngsters such as Richards and Mcintyre tied to longer term contracts not leave it till the end of the season to get there heads turned.

we are not instantly in the clear now.

as a positive we have a good nucleus and it is a buyers market out there at the moment as noone will be offering big contracts in this current climate for the players we will hopefully be looking at.

best case scenario
Loan out or sell
Baldock
Mcnulty
Walker
Smith

Bring in players like-
Maddison
Jackson Irvine
Kevin Stewart
Osho
Andre Green
Rajin Van La Parra
I would have Obita back aswell

all free transfers without a club that would probably take a sensible wage on a years contract to be playing and get there foot in the door.

I cant see Brendan letting us have Maddison although he has been on the bench.

The league have to sign off every deal by every club for every player.
They could have rejected our signing s last summer if they believed they were going to break our FFP commitments. We didn’t sign them in some secret, underhand way. They were signed with the approval of the league.
