TiagoIlori Exclusives has now confirmed Drinkwater IS the target.

How his career has fallen. I guess the other lesson is that N'Golo Kante can make anybody look like Andrea Pirlo.

Could either be a massive big name flop or have a transformative impact if he finds form.

Not use aboutDrinkwater. Had some poor loans, some off field issues, possibly got lazy living off massive wages and not really having to earn them. Would become here and get stuck in, or would he be disruptive? How would he fit in the side ?

He has played less than thirty games in the past four years. Not terribly convinced by this.

Depends a lot on where he is mentally. Has he given up on the game? Or does he still want another 2-3 years at a decent level

Sounds like he has been playing preseason. I’d be ok with it if he still has the drive to make a difference

Wouldn't mind either Baker or Drinkwater but it seems odd (unless a midfielder is leaving) for us to be in for yet another midfielder.
If we were going to get a midfielder on loan from Chelsea I would like to see us get Faustino Anjorin who is a bit like Loftus-Cheek in physique and has been around the first team in the past year.

I know that he is on big money (he is a friend of a mate's son) but aren't all Chelsea players?

I imagine it pushes Laurent forward (he offers a lot out wide) or allows Rino to cover RB - freeing Holmes for the middle

Drinkwater has a lot to prove, personally would make much more sense to take Ampadu or Baker but presume Chelsea have other ideas for them. Presume Drinkwater’s wages are also greater than either Ampadu or Baker so Chelsea will be making up a greater amount if he comes here, but then perhaps Reading are the only club interested in the player.

Don't think it matters if we persist with the same tactics that see Laurent and Rino fail to perform. Both proven players at this level being asked to ignore their defensive duties so they can pass slowly around the opposition box instead.

Let's just keep stacking up midfielders, maybe if we sign 10 we won't be shit. We could play all of them in the outfield rather than have any specialists in the right positions.

Laurent, Rinomhota, Swift, Ejaria, Tetek, Halilovic, TDB, Drinkwater, (Araruna)

Meanwhile, 1 winger, 1 right back, 1 left back, 1 striker fit in the senior squad.

… yeah. Don’t understand this at all.

Drinkwater has quality but hasn’t actually applied it for a very long time

Would add a dimension to our play that is currently missing, but I’m not sure we need.

Probably not someone who would be right for acting as cover.

Ampadu would make much more sense but he’s probably going to stay in the top flight.

I dunno. If Puscas gets injured we are in big trouble and we’re getting another midfielder?

If Puscas gets injured we lose all those goals he's been scoring?

He's done OK imo. And put Swift through for the penalty. Its about the same as Joao in only slightly more games.

I'd like to say trust the process, but I'm afraid the current coach has lost me, however....

I do recall a similar situation, where it seemed to me and my peer group that we needed a Striker and we went and signed Leigertwood... and it completely rebalanced our team...

Having said that, another wide player and a goal scorer who can play the lone striker role (if PV is going to be persevered with) seem a must to me.

We’re getting a striker alongside him, rumoured to be Zeqiri from Brighton

Agreed and we still have time to bring in another striker. A wide player was probably on the list before Joao's injury, but the priority has to shift now.

Do we need another centre back? We have three fit presently but they are hardly inspiring any confidence.

3 with Abbey & Strickland behind is probably fine. We'll only sign one, if we sell one.

It’d be fine if they weren’t putting out 4/10 performances each week

Maybe the tactic is to sack off the forwards, sack off the defence, and just keep possession & play for draws every week

Agreed but we know they can do better than they are. In our situation, we can't replace every player who is playing shit. If there is a deal out there that meets the need though, we may be looking.

Puscas scores a goal about every 210 minutes for us. That translates to about 19 a season if he maintained that rate. In any case I reckon he's good for 10 goals.

Without him, erm, our remaining fit strikers have never scored a professional goal.
