Snowflake Royal Could always make enquiries about emergency loans so we've got one ready to go, leave Andresson out on loan and use one if Southwood gets injured.

Cheapest option

To be honest A Keiren Westwood or Ben Alnwick on a short term contract till the end of the season would make sense, someone who could fill in if needed and not cost a fortune, loans in means their parent clubs always want them to play and this could have an impact on Southwoods development.

I think With Yiadom and Rahman going to AFCON it would make more sense to sign a LB or RB. Or with current injury problems we maybe seeing a lot of Bristow and Araruna in the coming weeks. Andre Wisdom might be worth a punt on a free I am surprised that he has not found a club already.

With Joao close to returning and Clarke in the wings this would make sense especially if Carroll stays until the end of the season.

Paper talk today(again) of Swift to Leeds. the bad news.
The good news is that allegedly he may wait till the Summer to consider his options.

Not sure that is good news tbh. Given our perilous financial position, it could see us lose him for nothing next summer. I think we'll scrape survival without him, but either way he's gone next season. For John Swift, win-win. For RFC, lose-lose.

Hound Who have we got on loan?

Drinkwater
Baba
TDB

is that it?

Not sure if we can add anyone else to the squad with the EFL rules, but maybe someone to cover Baba could be an option for 1 month

I believe TDB is due back to Watford in Jan

Come to think of it. weren't all loans for only six months on EFL orders? I may, of course be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time), but I seem to recall this being said last August.

EDIT: Just checked with RFC website. All loans were including TDB, were for the season Panic over!

Good luck to Swify whatever he decides, hopefully he’ll move on in January as Reading’s finances obvs. need the boost of money in plus wages off so that’d be better than getting nowt in the summer.

Meanwhile no decisions yet over the ACON in January though it is being reported there are plans to announce an 'indefinite postponement' of the tournament. Presuming nothing will be finalised until some sort of compensation package is agreed with the hosting nation (Cameroon?)

Swift staying could genuinely be the difference between staying up and not

Not sure it’s quite that dramatic but considering how many of our goals he has scored/created it’s a reasonable opinion

We’d prob rather accept the loss of £2m or so in transfer fee and wages to have him here for the rest of the year

I’d hate to see him leave on a free though.

He’ll leave either way. Whether that’s for 1-2m now or free in June is pretty irrelevant imo. Think he’d prob be better off staying and taking his pick of offers for next year

It all depends really on the injury situation.

If it clears up a little and we have decent depth in midfield with Joao back and Meite looking close ish.

We're better off taking the money now.

If we've still got the world and his wife out, we can't really afford to lose the warm body and quality.

Swift has double the amount of goals as our next highest goal scorer, who has double the amount of goals of the ones below him.

He has over 4 times as many assists as anyone else.

We would be nuts to let him go for one or two mil in Jan.

But this is on the premise we get those players back, and then don’t lose more (or even lose them once they get back). Experience has shown we can’t rely on that.

Well yes, but if they quickly go off again, or others do, then we don't have the depth etc and the same applies.

So currently the expectation would be to lose Swift and Rafael in January along with Puscas if a loan deal can be worked out with someone. That would hopefully allow Reading to bring in a couple of loans for the rest of the season.

suspect there are prob experienced free agents knocking about who could sit on the bench for a couple of grand a week tops tbh. Sam Walker types. If rumours are true on Rafa's 20k or so a week salary, will be a massive saving if we can move him out

Suspect we'll have to pay up at least 50%, so once you factor in a replacement it won’t be a huge saving. But every little helps.

If he finds a new club at a decent wedge it should look rosier

yeah obvs depending on what wage we can get off the books. ideal world would be 100% but suspect you're right it will land around the 50% mark

Depends. He may want to return to Brazil but he can’t while contracted to us. It’s just as likely that both sides could agree to end the contract In January without us paying him, or him having to buy himself out. We simply don’t know the circumstances. As Carrollhas shown it is not always just about players squeezing the most cash out of clubs.

I expect Carroll will be gone in January with imminent return of Joao, EFL won’t pass the deal.

Would expect to see Swift stay so he can get the pick of club and signing on fee at end of season.

Rafael likely to go.

INs - none
OUTs - Carroll, Rafael

Carroll staying may depend on if we can offload Puscas or not
