Definitely not the sort of job Coppell would be after. Newcastle > Reading in many ways obviously but even so there's a lot of crap that goes with the territory. I can't see Coppell going there.

Coals to Newcastle maybe, but not Coppell. Absolutely and totally the wrong job for him.

I agree I cant see our man wanting such an insane job but it is a tad scary observing the odds plumetting in such a short space of time.

I can see where the speculation comes from...

Meanwhile, Coppell is convinced there will be no shortage of applicants to succeed Sam Allardyce despite so many bosses having been hired and then fired by Newcastle over the past few seasons.

Allardyce lasted just six months at St James' Park following a string of poor results and the home fans' taking a dislike to his long-ball style.

The former Bolton boss joins a long list of bosses who have been quickly discarded by the Magpies, which also includes Sir Bobby Robson, Graeme Souness, Ruud Gullit and Glenn Roeder.

"It won't put people off going there because it is still a club that is waiting to happen. It is that horrible potential word. If you could write in to apply for it the postman wouldn't have a bag big enough," he added.

"There will always be people who are desperate to get that job. They have fire-power and crowd support but the record has shown that you don't fill your pension for too long there."

But to me that last paragraph says "Thanks but no thanks".

I also suspect that whether or not he is tempted to take his chances, Coppell would be unlikely to break his contract with Reading. I remember someone suggested to him that a contract could be broken (I think it might have been a previous contract for use of the grounds by a rugby club) and he wasn't willing to go there at all.

from todays Daily Mail
"Its a results driven business. If you don't get results you are in the firing line and sometimes leaving is going to be a relief. Newcastle is a success story waiting to happen and plenty of people will want Sams job."

Coppell I'm sure would love that job, but he would want time to develop his players and his game as he did here. He wouldn't get time at Newcastle and so this for me is a none starter!

'arry or a foreigner IMO.

If someone had been punting massive on SSC he'd be a lot shorter than 16/1.

I'm more concerned with Pompey chasing Coppell once Redknapp has gone.

no need to fear that anymore, coppell will not go to newcastle either, big same said it was a 3-5 year plan and the impatient geordies were not happy with that, i can't see coppell doing anything different, here he is aloud to get on with his job no questions asked, too much invasion into his dealings if he goes up there.

I think 16-1 is a very decent price.......... I think he would go to newcastle if offered. Its the biggest potential club that he might get offered.

We'd then get martin jol - you've heard it here first.........

No, it's not going to happen. I was there when SC did the interview, and he made it clear he wasn't interested - but he made it clear in his usual deadpan way that those who know him understand and the journos from the nationals completely misunderstand.,

LOL SSC was just saying he would take the opportunity for a break from management due to stress... I find it hard to see him going for one of the most stressful jobs in football!

That would have been a good call had Bung Face decided to try hios luck at Newcastle. I bet his calulator was doing overtime trying to work that one out. Allegedly.
