Speculation - Sean Davis

by Southbank Old Boy » 23 May 2008 21:56

Apparently he and a couple of other players didn't show up for Portsmouth's FA Cup parade and so it's said he'll be leaving in in the summer.

He would've been a good target if we stayed up but would he be willing to drop down a division to come to Reading and surely get first team football?

After missing out on O'Neil and Steven Davis last year I really hope that Coppell is keeping an eye on this one.

Good player and one that we need... but don't think he'll drop down to the Championship.

If Sean Davis join us, it would be big boost to our challenge to Prem definitely.
Would love to have attacking minded MF like him.

Yes please.

Would be the perfect compliment to Harper, Matejovsky and Gunnarsson. Can't see him dropping down a division though. I'm sure one of the promoted teams or the likes of Fulham or Bolton would be in front of us in the queue.

Latest news is that Middlesbrough are in with a £2m bid, or perhaps even with a swap with O'Neil going back the other way again.

Not sure why Pompey would want O'Neil back, or why he'd really want to go back to a club he wanted to leave this time last year.

I read over the weekend that Davis won't be going to 'Boro because he 'wants to stay at Portsmouth.'

Reading between the lines I think O'Neil has told him it's grim up north and 'Boro is a right dump.

Not sure davis would be keen on playing in the championship
If he does leave pompey i'm sure he'll have other offers
Wages may also be an issue as pompey are probably paying him more than we can afford
Would be a great signing though

I don;t know how likely that is. Portsmouth have some big earners such as Kanu, James and Campbell, yet their wage bill is not huge. My guess is players like Davis are not earning more than our top earners.

This is a nonstarter. No way will he drop down a division. At the very worst he will join a Stoke or a West Brom.

Apparently Birmingham want him following the sale of Muamba to Bolton.

You'd have thought so but you'd have said the same about James Beattie last season.

I get the impression that Davis is a bit of southern boy who doesn't want to go too far up north. All his clubs have been down south and he's good mates with O'Neil, who it would seem didn't find moving up north to be a good thing.

I doubt there is any mileage in this one but you never know.

Totally different attitude at the two clubs m8. There is NO WAY Reading would spend £4-5 million on a player in the CCC. They wouldn't do it in the Premiership!

'greed.

I'm not sure it'd take that much to get Davis, but I was talking more about Davis' willingness to drop down a division more than the liklihood of Reading making an attempt to get him.

Well the Brum bid is apparently (or will apparently be) £1m so who knows, if we can match that and offer him the chance to stay in the South.

How much will you offer me Birmingham?

How much will you offer me Reading?

I'll offer you nothing as we haven't made a bid and I have no reason to believe we're even interested in signing him. Just saying it could happen.

We'll sign Jimmy Kebe's cousin from the Malian 3rd division champions instead.

Pompey still trying to shift him, apparently.
