Speculation: Euro 2008 players

by Ian Royal » 12 Jun 2008 21:04

Anyone spotted any players who look a bit tasty and might be within our sights?

I like the look of Korkmaz and Krzynowek from the Poland v Austria game both seem to be left wingers. No idea who they play for. I'll see what I can find out.

Sionko looked pretty good for Czechs as well, but I supsect is out of our range having played for Rangers.

This was supposed to be a touch more sensible than that. How about Podolski?

Krzynowek is 32 and plays for Wolfsburg. 46 aps with 6 goals. Probably not right.

Korkmaz is already joining frankfurt... but then he didn't look so good in the second half. a bit speedy and bambi like.

Oh well.

Christoph Leitgeb.

I know he missed an easy chance today, but i thought he played well.

Would be very happy if we signed him tbh.

Thought that Matey bloke for the Czechs looked quite handy.. anyone know who he plays for and whether he'd be in our price range?

Sionko isn't out of our league, imo, given that Saganowski(?) is at Saints.

If we were still in the Prem, then Boruc would be a fantastic purchase, if a bit expensive. My favourite goalkeeper is still Volkan.

The Turkish looking Polish centreback wasn't bad. Big and muscular.

Boruc's at Celtic isn't he?Certainly beyond us now we've gone through the trapdoor. Not sure we'd have had a huge chance even had we stayed up. But he has looked quality.

Agree on Volkan as well. Especially with that name... sounds a bit like a greek god. Which is quite amusing.

It has always baffled me at how crap the big teams are at scouting in central/eastern Europe. Every time a team like Croatia, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria blah, blah, blah play in big Euro/World tournaments there is so clearly a player with technical ability that is way beyond what we have home grown I don't understand why they haven't been spotted pre-big tournament.
I think I can say with certainty that there is probably an 18 year old playing in Slovakia right now who given the opportunity would be a superstar. Why Man U and Chelsea don't watch these players instead of just saying "oh, let's spend fifty squillion quid on Kaka" amazes me. Having said that if we were to spend said money on Kaka I wouldn't complain.

We're not in a position to purchase any players from Euro 2008 because we can't compete according to the club. Bristol City and Derby are apparently though.

You'll have to remind me of all the players Bristol City and Derby have signed from Euro 2008. Thanks.
