Speculation - Darren Currie

by Super Kevin Bremner! » 27 Jul 2008 13:40

I know he's getting on a bit and he looks like Caskey after a week on an all inclusive holiday, but the guy is seriously talented and for peanuts (being available on a free and wages being easily managable) we could pick up an excellent squad player that can do a job either side of the pitch and even as a fifth striker.

Coppell will know him well from his days at Brighton too. Snap him up I say.

He is getting on a bit and I'm not sure that his signing would be an improvement on what we have already.

Squad players should improve the overall squad and not indivuals necessarily. Yes he's old but he certainly is NOT rubbish.

We want a young-ish player to come in who will have a future at the club who wouldn't be a one season wonder..Darren Currie would be an example of a one season wonder. This Ben Watson bloke seems perfect. Unless he has signed elsewhere already?

You're missing the point. A squad player will deputise when we have injuries and will come off the bench when we need to change a game.

He's a creative player, a set piece speciallist (do we have one if Shorey goes?) and he's got ability to go past players and get his passes off.

He wouldn't start more than 10-15 games if that.

Young and hungry is our usual criteria. Didn't stop us signing Doobs though.

If we felt that Little should stay around for longer then why not think about Currie?
A very good crosser of a ball and somebody who stays calm in tight situations.
Probably a couple of seasons too late and he is even slower than Glen but on a free (presumably?)he could be an impact player when the game slows down in the second half, much like Little's role will probably be at Pompey.
I can think of worse options and if we are thinking of somebody like Currie how about Wade Elliott at Burnley who I think would be an improvement on any of the wingers that we have at the club and (most importantly for our impoverished club) he wouldn't cost much.

Those saying he is crap, what exactly are you basing this on?

If the boy had more pace he would be playing Premier League football right now. Although don't expect him to tackle or track back.

He's going to League 2 Chesterfield, which is his level and has always been his level. I can't believe any of you are actually taking this seriously.
