Rumour - Alan Irvine

by UpNorth » 25 May 2009 11:47

Ok so it was only a Sunday rumour in the People but he has a first rate record as a coach.

Cost a bit in compensation though.

Definitely worth looking at.

To be fair Preston are in a bit of a state, finances wise (see link below), so they may be willing to settle for a little less?

http://www.lep.co.uk/pnenews/Irvo-Get-real.5293705.jp

Alan Irvine "A lot of names being thrown up are totally unrealistic," he said.

"We can't pay the kind of wages that most clubs in the Championship can pay. In fact we can't afford the wages that some of the clubs in League One can pay.

"At the moment I don't have a budget. But I'm going to be having a meeting with the chairman to see what can be done, if anything.

"I don't expect I will be doing a great deal. That's just the nature of football at the moment. I don't expect there will be an awful lot of transfers, certainly not sizeable ones, this summer.

"And I don't think we will be able to do a great deal because everyone knows our money situation.

"Everyone knows that this club loses money each month, so it is very difficult for us to go out and buy players of the level that we need.

"We are obviously looking and we will continue to do that. But I honestly don't think there will be many changes."

I'd be very happy with that appointment, he could bring Paul McKenna and Sean St. Ledger with him.

I agree, employing a hypnotist and a horse has got to be worth a try.

Alan Irvine - absolute NOPE. There is NO way I would accept him as manager of RFC.

Quick, someone tell Hammond, Howe and Madejski not to waste their time looking at his application or sorting out his contract. HH refuses to give it his seal of approval so it just won't happen!

What would you actually do about it though? Nothing, thought so.

G'dad is a preston fan and apparently there are some strong rumours up there that we've asked for permission from PNE to talk to him.

Good record as assistant at Everton, and if he brings players like Ross Wallace and Paul Mckenna with him then I'll welcome the appointment with open arms.

More rumours from the PNE Mad site ......

Sources have reported that Reading's search for life after Steve Coppell has begun and that John Madjeski believes that Preston's Alan Irvine could be a suitable replacement for the Royals.

It's not unusual for a Preston manager to be linked with a vacant post following on from Billy Davies and David Moyes in most recent years after successful Championship campaigns on limited budgets.

Irvine hasa taken Preston into the top six on almost the same squad that were languishing bottom of the table when he took the reigns some 18 months ago.

Reading are thought to have identified Irvine as someone who can give Reading a chance at promotion next season on limited funds as the club has one more season before the parachute payments cease.

Reading look like they want to speak to Irvine which will then leave Chairman Shaw with the decision on whether to grant permission. It is true that the majority of recent manager's have had a clause int heir contract refusing them to speak to any other Championship club without permission but that did not stop Billy Davies leaving after compensation was agreed.

Irvine has only been at the club for 18 months and appears to want to continue the rebuilidng with Preston andmay not even get the chance to speak to Reading if the Preston board politely decline any request from Reading.

I certainly wouldn't be unhappy if he was to become our manager.
IMHO he's quite ambitious, and have been working wonders with a small budget. Also he really gets his players fired up for games.

Alan Irvine played for Crystal Palace under Steve Coppell and Coppell is apparantly helping with the selection process.

Can we take it for granted that Irvine applied then? Interesting.

Nope. He can't apply if he's under contract somewhere else - or at least not officially.
