Schards#2 It might help if the team gets stuck into the, admittedly superior, opposition rather than letting them play pretty much as they please a la the Arsenal game.

Exactly.

The outcome may be the same but at least come off the pitch having done yourselves justice FFS.

2 world wars, 1 world cup
STAR Campaigns ... They’re really keen for the atmosphere to get back to last season’s levels – and they particularly feel that a good atmosphere tomorrow would massively help their cause.

Please do everything you can to make the atmosphere tomorrow an extra-special one - don't forget we are playing Liverpool, in the Premier League!

Dear Team,

You seem to forget we're Reading folk: only 8000 of us actually support you and of these around 7500 are chronic moaners, who may, if you're lucky, not boo if you win. The rest of the 20000 probably support some other Premiership club or support Premiership football in general so just turn up for the entertainment. Therefore please refrain from asking for us to make noise for you. We expect you to entertain us. We will clap politely if you beat one of the best teams in the world tomorrow.

Yours,

Number 13.

thats vaguely amusing but was proved totally inaccurate last season. the lack of comparable atmosphere this season is purely down to a little less excitement as we've done this before now, and some very lack lustre and toothless performances.

Last season = a blip. Biggest season in our history, ever. So masses of excitement all around. Now we're back to relative normality. Reading fans = quiet.

Jerry St Clair They should also have a chat with our "lose one yob, gain a family of four" chief exec.

No matter how many times you squeal "back the boys and make some noise" over the tannoy, it ain't gonna work if you have gestapo-like crowd control.

<wild applause, whilst sat down doing so - obviously>

Zammo Drop Brynjar Gunnarsson and I will.

Reading fans apathetic since year dot. I know, it's Gunnarsson's fault. And there was me thinking that we've had our first thread for weeks where Gunnarsson hasn't been deemed the cause of all our problems.

Christ, I'm sure he's been implicated by someone, somewhere in the Madelaine McCann thread.

They'll just laugh at you...

I'm guessing everyone is gonna boo Gerrard and maybe a bit of 'Send him back to jail' aimed at Pennant

If the team had half as much passion as RL we would go down with all guns blazing and a few red cards into the bargain.

Whoopey doo, let's all get excited because we're playing Liverpool again and it's the premier league, forget about being entertained and enjoying the game

I'd rather we were playing Wolves in the Championship to be honest.

As for the atmosphere, well that jumps up a few notches when the team actually attack and look threatening.

I pay to watch the team and enjoy the spectacle, they don't pay me for motivating them to do their job and if I wanted to spend the afternoon singing I'd join a choir.

There is only so many times the "it's the premier league!" card can be played. I think it expired during the last game of the last season.

If that is true then the person giving Sam#1 (who sounds a right character ) his ticket is breaking the terms and conditions of his season ticket by giving his seat up to an opposition fan.

do you not understand the concept of supporting a football team??
It sounds like you would rather something to moan about than be happy that your team is doing well.

SpaceCruiser If you're only there to watch the team, then surely the opposition doesn't matter, whether it's Liverpool or Wolverhampton? So why say you'd prefer to watch us play Wolves?
It would be a better spectacle and less plastic fans in the Reading end taking photos of the opposition players like Gerrard warming up during gameplay.

I just don't like being told I have to sing and to get excited because the opposition happen to be Liverpool.

I'm happy when we do well, even if that means we lose 7-4 away to Portsmouth yet still put our hearts into it.

If you go to a pop concert, the act on stage gets the crowd going, they do this by entertaining and giving those watching something to get excited, optimistic or proud of, not by telling their contacts to go round and instruct the paying audience to raise their game regardless of how good or bad the performance is.

I do support the team, I clap the players off and subs... I clap harder and louder if they've done a good job. I never boo our players. I just need motivating to sing/clap and I'm sorry but a messageboard post from STAR and a bloke on the deafening PA telling me to "back the boys and make some noise" just doesn't do it for me.

I think both the supporters and the team kept their part of the bargain tonight.

Lots of noise, lots of support, lots of hostility from all 3 stands and the players played with the commitment and whole-heartedness that the supporters feel entitled to expect.

Job done!

Job not bloody done. Same for the rest of the season please.

I'd have been happy to lose today just having seen a hint of my old friend committed attacking Reading back.
