Oh dear.
Just because they played well yesterday, doesn't mean criticicms of them before weren't valid.

the critiscism of convey was never valid, it was always gonna take time for him to recover properly and in the games he played before yesterday he was playing ok in a poor team
harps is a different matter, he has been poor this season, and was anomynous yesterday before he scored, IMO gunnar has not been the problem in midfield, harper has

FWIW I agree with you.
I just despise these type of smart alec "where are all the people who said xxxx was shit now then, eh, eh?" after xxx has a good game.
Harper was excellent yesterday, but that doesn't mean the criticism of him after the Boro game is suddenly void.

Ian Royal No one is saying we don't need to strengthern. Some of us are just saying that writing off Convey was foolish, as proven by last night.
Writing off Harper is foolish as proven by last night. Harper IS a very good player, but he is the sort of player that needs other people playing well around him to be effective. Why? Because he needs them to be moving into space not standing static. He needs them to be retaining possession so he doesn't get sucked deeper and deeper into our own half. He needs them to be making tackles so he can do the closing down which he is so good at.
When the team play well Harper has more chance to play his simple passses and be pleasantly annonymous. He also has the opportunity to break forward.
When have we looked our best this season? When Harper has felt he can risk charging forward.

im not doubting that the convey critics were being daft........but i disagree with your harper comment, he is a good player, nothing more and if this club wants to progress then, as much as it pains me to say it, he has to be one of the first to be replaced

And i suppose after the boro game you were saying how harper and gunnarrsson were premiership quality midfielders???????? could you be more fickle?

Harper is a premiership quality midfielder. Gunnarsson is a good premiership squad player. After the boro game I'd have been criticising Harper if he had a bad game, but I'd have been more upset about the lack of drive confidence and enthusiasm the team had. I certainly wouldn't have said he wasn't good enough to play for us. THats been proved to be not the case over the last 4 or 5 seasons.
Harper is the cog in the middle that emphasises the perfromance, when Reading players are doing badly they play worse because Harper requires players around him to be playing well to play well himself.
When Reading players play well Harper brings it all together and makes the team play better than its individual parts.
It's like sayinig Lita is shit just because he's getting no service. He can't play well without good service. Doyle and Kitson can. Doesn't mean he isn't good enough at this level.

Ian Royal No. Not unless we have a very good one off season and strengthern in the areas we need to, which arn't Harper.
Nor do I think we can break into the top six with anyone we can currently bring in running the show.
In 5 - 10 years we may be capable of being a top 6 club, if we build very carefully and are very very lucky.
