Cookie
Daniella Considering we have NO original songs we do well enough IMO.
We have no history thats why we have no chants. People are laughed at for suggesting new ones. Just be creative, if its good people will sing it, if its shite then it won't be heard again. Stop whining about the support and be productive.

Maybe you can suggest an adaptation of a Rangers song.

I know this had been suggested before by other nobbers but that Monkeys song would make a really good short chant.

Its original (i think). It is fairly light hearted which means no one can complain that 'it has no relation to Reading'.The words are easy and its got a nice little tune to it.

Wouldn't it be fantastic to sing on Saturday as a pleasant break from blue army.Fair enough some of you will say its shit but then again think of the songs we currently sing. Some of them hardly make sense. It may also be that after a few attempts its becomes crystal clear it won't work. However giving it a real go would be awesome.

hey hey we're the royals
and people say we monkey around
but we're to busy singing
to bring anybody down.

The last line could be changed to something better and i'm sure one of you can think of something.

Anyone up for giving it a real go?

bring back the royals anthem!!

have to say im not bothered that much as long as it doesnt sound like a morgue every game which i feel it doesnt. What is clear and a tad annoying is that we have never had much creativity when it comes to singing about our current/past heroes- sidwell's was just plain embarrasing, kitsons has been done before, little's has no invention what so ever and harper and ingi both 1st team players dont even have a consistent chant to their name! any creativity for chants of players seems to get drowned out by the same old re hashes  . I would say of our current players only Sonko has a decent original chant though that will probably be put on the shelf for now!!

It's an awful song to play at a football ground. As i posted earlier on this topic...Play pigbag before kick-off.

Good article on the whole issue here, including:

"At Elm Park the singing fans used to be along the side of the pitch under a corrugated roof that made the sound bounce well," remembers Paula Martin, chairman of the Reading Supporters' Trust.

"When you go into a nice bowl stadium it just seems to dissipate and always makes the away fans sound louder, partially because we're spread out more."

How about turn the music off with 5 minutes left until kick off?

We need some songs to get the crowd going before the game. From quarter to 3 have 10 minutes of songs that will get the atmosphere started. songs like Hey Jude etc.

Nothing wrong with the last line. Perfect for when Sonks bundles someone over in the penalty area. It could be sung every game (except when he's suspended).

Went to Exeter v Torquay on Boxing day morning, (yes I know, but it's the nearest ground to my home) the ground is still Elm Park'esque, with uncovered stands for the away fans ( you're getting wet, we're not, we're not) and the popular end behind the goal is standing with barriers to lean on!
We saw an entertaining game between the only two teams in Devon, 4-3 to Exeter and a sending off for a theatrical "head-butt" where the Torquay player beat the Exeter player to the deck and ensured that he was sent off!

So what's the point, well this is an important derby game and still only about a third of the popular support sang up with very much effort

Good songs are the slow burning spontaneous ones and they will "click" or disappear

Contrived songs rarely work, if it's suggested it is "contrived"

Songs associated with clubs don't have to be relevant or sensible

People will sing more, together, in anonimity, which is why fancy dress makes people bolder!

The club can help by playing popular choices in their original form and they may be adopted, this happened with Terry & June

Perhaps the STAR board can persuade the club to play a short list of suggested songs, lots of times to see how people react?

A popular song will thrive if it is cultivated, but don't hold your breath!
