Ian Royal Coppell always plays to win in th ecup. He make changes, but it's always a team sent out with the intention of competeing and winning the match.

Yeh I know, just repeating it again for any lurkers who might be reading from other boards :P

If Duberry is unfit for a while and IF Ehiogu is fit what a game it would be for him returning to Villa Park.
Talking of experienced players in Scotland could Steven Pressley be a short-term option now that Celtic have signed Frinkel?

Ian Royal
cmonurz We can all discuss our preferred option, but we know that Gunnar will start at Villa.

I'm not so sure. Cisse's had a run of 3 games, and Coppell doesn't like changing the team, and hasn't struck me as a manager to just put someone straight back in after injury/suspension, unless he sees a huge difference in quality.

60-40 in Gunnars favour though I'd admit.

Coppell has done it before with the centre halfs when he's dropped Bikey as soon as others have been fit. He did leave Sidwell on the bench a couple of times when Gunnarsson did well in his absence before though, but for all the possession is 9/10th cliches I think Coppell just picks the team he thinks is best for the coming match.

[quote]MICHAEL DUBERRY will go for a scan knee today after injuring his left knee in Reading’s FA Cup third-round clash with Tottenham, writes NICK IVE.

The central defender was starting his first game in two months, but was forced off in the dying minutes of Saturday’s 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane.

Duberry’s injury leaves Coppell desperately short at the back as Ibrahima Sonko and Andre Bikey are both now on international duty in the African Cup of Nations.

Manager Steve Coppell is now after defensive reinforcements.

Nineteen-year-old Alex Pearce replaced Duberry at White Hart Lane and could now feature in Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa.

[b]Royals’ boss said: “Duberry’s injury could create a problem in terms of numbers, but I wouldn’t say we’re desperate.

“We’ll see how he is after the scan but Alex Pearce could be given his chance this week.â€

I would be utterly disgusted if we put a makeshift centreback in place against Villa, when we have players like Bennett and Pearce available. I do hope Doobs is fit though

It's a shame we've not seen Pearce gain a bit of experience in a cup tie here or then so that throwing him in against Villa wasn't such an unknown for him!

OS saying that a scan has revealed only minor damage to Duberry's knee and he could be fit for Villa.

I can't see us having two defenders on the bench. Isn't Gunnarsson back now? If so he will be on the bench at least.

Forgot about Boris - easily done. So he'd be on the bench instead of Marek, he'll probably put Lita on the bench instead of one of those defenders.

I'm expecting

hahnemann

Murty
Shorey
Duberry if he doesn't make it, he won't play Pearce. It would be Gunnarsson.
Ivar

Hunt
Cisse
Harper
Convey

Doyle
Kitson

Federici, DLC, Long, Lita, Pearce/Bryn depending on Doobs fitness.

The only reason Doobs is playing is because Sonko can't be selected. Otherwise as ever it would have been no changes.

Nope. Probably won't this season as he gets 'used to the style of play over here'

If he goes the way of our other signings, he will mysteriously reappear in the Czech league in April.

It wouldn't surprise me if he brought Bryn back into the starting XI. At least we'd get a good game out of him as he only seems put a decent performance in when he hasn't played the previous week.

Brynjar Gunnarsson says he is more than happy to step into a central defensive role if called upon at Villa Park this weekend.
