jumpers for goalposts I would say that in terms of technique, the guys taking the corners are not good enough. Hunt and Shorey are at best ordinary premier league players. I would like to see Matejovsky have a go, or even Harper for that matter, as he is technically better than both Shorey or Hunt, despite his lack of a good 'football brain' on the whole

Howser17 I'd love to see the stats on goals scored from corners from all teams though.

MiniRoyalHowser17 Just found the match reprts for the season, and so far reading have had a total of 177 corners, giving them an average of about 7 corners per game. Their lowest number of corners in a game was 3, against man u (o-o) and Derby (W1-0), and the highest numbers were 13 during the 0-2 defeat to Bolton, and 14 during our 0-3 defeat against Wast Ham. This gives them a ratio of about 1 goal every 35 corners. (this is based on them scoring 5 from corners this season, however im not sure about this figure)

It's telling that we got so many corners and still got comfortably beaten! We must've been doing something right but just not managing to find the end product...

Hoop Blah I found one set of stats which is quite interesting. Not sure on their accuracy but this is the table for goals scored from dead balls so includes free kicks as well as corners. It doesn't include penalties though.
Team F A
Villa 16 9
Spurs 14 18
Reading 13 9
United 12 3
Everton 10 7
Blackburn 9 9
Fulham 9 9
Arsenal 8 4
Birmingham 8 9
Bolton 7 9
Liverpool 7 8
Wigan 7 8
Newcastle 6 10
Chelsea 5 4
City 5 5
Sunderland 5 10
West Ham 5 7
Boro 4 7
Pompey 4 4
Derby 3 8
These came from http://premiersoccerstats.com/TeamGoals ... ME=Reading and apparently go up to the start of Feb only.

Howser17 That is quite interesting. However in terms of accuracy, it was stated a few posts ago : - "It was the 20th goal Villa have scored from a free-kick or corner this season". Although this would probably include cup games where as the above figures are only league i presume. Anyway, 13 goals from dead balls, thats almost half of our goals.

So you think the 20th setpeice goal is 100% correct then?
I'm sure I read/heard different figures around the time of our game. Anyway, either way, I'm not sure how accurate the table I posted is but as long as they're consistent in the way they've counted the stats then it shows a decent comparison, and we actually look quite dangerous from set pieces ourselves, which isn't what I'd have expected.
