Dirk Gently How do you describe "best"? Marcus is our best in gaol but I'd not want him playing on the wing or up front.

He's still nowhere near as good as Joey Barton, though. HTH.

Matejovsky is our most technically gifted player. Possibly ever. The Dariusz's and the Darren's weren't on his level, and I can't judge Friday (though he was probably more gifted).

Before my use of the apostrophe is questioned, Dariuszs and Darrens looks stupid.

Apostrophe after the s I believe. Dariuszs' and Darrens'. Could be wrong.

I would have gone with Dariuszes and Darrens - it's not possessive and you're not missing out letters, so no justification for any apostrophe use there.

It is possessive, it's how much ability on the ball the two respective players possessed, which is why I thought the apostrophe went after the s on in both cases. However I was wrong, surely it's before the s. It's only if their names ended in an s it would be afterwards I believe.

gone for harps due to his work rate and ability to do pretty much everything on the pitch (defend, attack, score etc), think the team would fall apart without him in the centre

Pearcey and Karacen will be in contention for player of the season awards if they stay in the team - Kebe deserves best player tag at the mo

Back of the class for you I am afraid. It is a pluralisation of Darren and Dariusz so no apostrophe required.

Shane Long.

Is my favourite and the one I'd least like to lose. Does that make him our best? Best for what? He's certainly not our best centre-back. You can have favourite players and best players for individual positions but not best overall - unless someone is best overall like Beckenbaer who could play in any position.

`greed
we are bedfellows

One small point though, I don`t recall Beckenbauer ever playing up front. I realise the comparison with The Kaiser and Andy Bernal is miniscule, but Skippy played in lots of positions, so if we had this debate ten years ago he could well have turned out to be our "best player".
