Dirk Gently How do you describe "best"? Marcus is our best in gaol but I'd not want him playing on the wing or up front.

SCIAG Matejovsky is our most technically gifted player. Possibly ever. The Dariusz's and the Darren's weren't on his level, and I can't judge Friday (though he was probably more gifted).
Before my use of the apostrophe is questioned, Dariuszs and Darrens looks stupid.

I would have gone with Dariuszes and Darrens - it's not possessive and you're not missing out letters, so no justification for any apostrophe use there.

rhroyal It is possessive, it's how much ability on the ball the two respective players possessed, which is why I thought the apostrophe went after the s on in both cases. However I was wrong, surely it's before the s. It's only if their names ended in an s it would be afterwards I believe.

Man Friday Shane Long.
Is my favourite and the one I'd least like to lose. Does that make him our best? Best for what? He's certainly not our best centre-back. You can have favourite players and best players for individual positions but not best overall - unless someone is best overall like Beckenbaer who could play in any position.
