Dirk Gently But what if the first 3 or 4 games are against unattractive opposition - or the last 10 games agaisnt the most attractive teams? That could result in a loss of income as people decide to only buy after the teams they're not interested in.
And as a result of their (the clubs) lack of flexibility, the fans may then decide to just not bother going at all. It's in the club's interest to sell out the stadium for every game, as even if they end up selling remaining tickets for £5 each, they still make big returns on food sales, replica shirts etc as well as raise brand awareness, and attract more casual fans in.
Unfortunately our club are not so enlightened- a match day ticket costs £27 if you turn up on the day. Now who in their right mind would pay that to watch Championship football? Trouble is they are so obsessed with not upsetting the existing ST holders that they feel the need to make turning up on the day a non viable option. Everyone loses- fan gets no football, club get no money. I'd also highly doubt existing ST holders would be that bothered about discounted tickets to try and fill the stadium. Part of the appeal of a ST is having your guarenteed seat, and sitting with your friends/family.
