Footballer arrested over fatal crash

by Dirk Gently » 30 Dec 2008 18:24

A Championship footballer has been arrested in connection with a crash on Christmas Day which left a father-of-five dead.

Sheffield United striker Jordan Robertson, 20, who is currently on loan to Southampton, was arrested by Leicestershire Police on suspicion of dangerous driving following a collision on the M1 near Lutterworth. He was later bailed.

Notwithstanding the obvious tragedy of this, if any proof were needed that football finances have gone mad, this is it.

A 20 year old footballer I've never heard of who's not even deemed good enough to play for a middling to poor club in the secodn tier can afford to drive this:

Not another one for christ sakes. I suppose if you can afford the insurance to drive such a car it obviously means you can also drink drive. Cock.

Doesn't say anything about drink driving in that article. I took it to be speeding which caused the accident and therefore dangerous driving. You don't have to have had a drink to drive like a cock.

Having drunk is usually a good way to get someone with death by dangerous driving.

Otherwise it can be quite hard to convict on that and it ends up as driving without due care. At least thats what my Mum told me after she'd done a stint of Jury service on a case which involved a death by driving.

If you are over the drink-drive limit and kill someone in an accident by driving a car, you will be found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. That is cut and dried. Otherwise the offence of causing death by dangerous driving is very difficult to prove by the CPS.

In the case of this guy, I will reserve judgement until the trial, if indeed there is one, and make my own mind up after that. Is it not a fundamental aspect of our constitution (written or unwritten) that a man is innocent until proven guilty? I personally find it extremely disappointing that people are already speaking as if this man is guilty.

Yeah, but don't you just hate young footballers these days?

I seem to recall that darius henderson was on 50k a year for his first contract at RFC, this car is under 20k, so affordable by most footballers at third tier level, if they so wish to spend money on a car like that.

Particularly as it could be a sponsored car.

Theres been a spate of deaths caused by drivers who were texting in the outside lane of the motorway recently, and there was that guy who was oxf*rd whilst doing 140mph in the outside lane. those would presumably also be fairly easy "death by dangerous driving" convictions, I would have thought; no alcohol required.

Oh yeah.

Although I doubt onanism at 140mph is any safer when sober.

Good lord, why did someone driving 140mph feel the sudden need to masturbate. Couldn't they have waited until they got home?

Thrill combining. He had sharp-toothed nipple clamps on, a plastic bag over his head and was sitting on a butt plug at the same time.

Can you imagine the thrill of doing all that whilst driving at 140mph using only your knees to steer? Wow.

I presume it would be quite hard to prove someone was texting when they crashed. Unless they admit it.

If only the mobile phone companies had records of calls and texts made to and from each phone.

In any case, whenever there's an accident these days the Police always quickly check the phone to see texts sent & received and calls made/received.

Nope! I very much doubt a person would have had the chance to delete their sent items before the police arrived. If they did it would be retrievable from the phone company. If a phone was tampered with as a cover up then it would be a case of 'perverting the course of justice'. All phone records are easily retrievable if needed for a criminal investigation.

Waht I can't compute is that he was three times over the limit when he tried to pleasure himself. When I've been drinking I fall asleep and have no ability to get it up. It's called brewer's droop. Mind you I am old.

The guy actually still had an erection when the emergency services arrived, so didn't seem to have any trouble in that regard.
