complete coincidence seeing as performances (bar the odd exception) have been unimpressive on the whole since Sheff Utd which was mid November

The 2-2 draw at Cardiff (we had ten men for anhour) was superb and the players were applauded off. Kebe had one breath-taking run making a goal for Kebe, and this against a side which has still only lost 4 games all season.

We then win five matches on the trot

and that's "unimpressive"

What is impressive though is Kebe making a goal for Kebe! :D

Jeez.

You've completely confused performances with results there.

An unimpressive performance can still produce an impressive result. Just as impressive performances can still produce unimpressive results.

The Cardiff game was an impressive performance and result and most likely one of the exceptions Ian mentions.

Exactly Stranded. although I wasn't thinking Cardiff specifically if I'm think the right one? we were pissed all over early on, Bikey was sent off forcing us to shut up shop, Cardiff faded and then we battered them from about midway through the second half.

An impressive recovery, certainly and I guess that could count it as an impressive performance, although those first bunch of minutes with Routledge opening us up again and again (or so it seemed) may have tainted my opinion of it slightly. Hence why it wasn't one I was thinking about (Watford and B'ham specifically)

You people amaze me.

Cardiff: we go away to one of the toughest places to play in the Championship, to a side whose current home record is now 10-4-2 26-12, a side currently 5th with 3 games in hand, a side that has only lost 4 games all season (best in the league)... We are down to ten men after 30 minutes and play superbly and get a 2-2 draw and could easily have won.

We win 5 on the trot but are "unimpressive".

You can't win with you lot. If a few of us said we played well even though we lost you'd jump all over us.

Which bit of "conceded less goals than any other team" is unimpressive?

Which bit of "second highest scorers in the league" (played two games less) is "unimpressive"?

Which bit of "our goal difference is 9 better than the second best GD in this league" is "unimpressive"?

How is third, two games in hand, 6/4 favourites for the title, "unimpressive"?

How is having the highest ranked defender in the league "unimpressive"?

How is having our striker the absolute top-ranked player in the league "unimpressive"?

How is having three players in the top 11 of the championship "unimpressive"?

It can't be pretty all the time. It's about results

I note that Lita is not in the top 25 Championship strikers this season (even when including his Norwich goals)

What do you not get about PERFORMANCES not being impressive?

So far you have managed to call Cardiff of the series of games I called as generally poor performances. Congratulations 1 game out of about 14. A game which I probably foolishly considered poor because of the way we were battered early on and the frustration of the sending off and only managing a draw despite running the show for the last 30 odd minutes of the game whilst down to 10.

I never said any of the things you've listed were unimpressive. They have nothing to do with what I've said. Smoke and Mirrors to distract from what I've actually said, to try and make me look like I'm saying something I'm not.

Spot on Ian.

The point is that there are times when we have won without being impressive - more often than not. There are also occasions (Birmingham away) where the performance WAS impressive. Remember the performance against Man Utd last season? We lost 2-0 but hell, we WERE impressive.

Winning a game does not go hand in hand with being impressive.

I know that. I once saw the best side lose 4-0 (Carlisle at Blackpool) and won a lot of money saying Carlisle would still go up

However, the way this list works, saying "We played well (but lost)" is an invitation to be reamed.

In the end, sod performances, what was the result?

We are W18 D 9 L8 62-32; that is won 51.42% of our games

We are the second-best attack after Wolves and miles clear of the third best attack

We have slipped to third-best defence in the league

But our goal supremacy slaughters the league. We are 0.86 with the second-best on 0.59

We are 3rd with 2 games in hand, and our future still in our own hands

Results are important once we have them, but performances are more key in interpreting our chances of getting future results.

If you are consistently putting in poor performances, sooner or later those performances MUST improve or you'll start failing to consistently pick up points.

And our defensive record, attacking record and goal diff /whatever can easily be skewed by the first half of the season, not really reflecting what's happening now.

He's one of our reserve "for the future" players.

Saw this interesting little post on the Norwich City Pink 'Un Discussion Board...

My mate works at dunston hall bar and he served Leroy Lita whilst he was at our on loan. At first i though yeh yeh ok.. But then he showed me the till receipt showing him serving it and he ordered 1opints of stella and was dared by his mate who was staying with him for the weekend to down 10 pints in an hour. I was pretty shocked as this was a thursday and i recall there being a game on the saturday. If this kind of attitude was to go anything by then i think Leroy is abit of a 'bad apple' and we all know Steve Coppel wouldn't put up with that..

Does the till receipt 'prove' it was Lita ?

Could anyone down 10 pints of Stella in an hour and walk away to boast about it ?

No idea quite what he was saying re the till receipt, there seemed to be something missing from the story (quite possibly the truth I suppose).

As for the 10 pints bit, he didn't say he did walk away.

It is interesting that the behaviour / attitude the story highlights are very similar to those that come from so many different sources in the Reading area.

The 10 Stellas in an hour, that Lita would be able to manage, would be of the female and not the beer variety :D

I would take that quote from the Norwich City board with a pinch of salt. They can't prove anything at all.
