brendywendy james harper was out in reading at the mix bar on saturday

is this the start of the new slack regime that rodgers proposes?

No, it's called having a summer break!

All the players are weighed before they set off for they hols. Weighed again on their return to pre-season training. Harps is one of the fittest players we have. I'm sure he's entitled to have a drink.

Gordons Cumming I'm looking forward to new style Royals.

Seeing our team pass again will remind me of the McGhee days.

The passing style under Steve Coppell that led to 106 points not quite good enough then?

An almost distant memory, replaced with utter dross for 2 seasons. And the year and a bit before 2005/6 to be fair.

Brendan Rogers is definitely the right choice for the new era at Reading FC.

I would have been worried if we had gone for a 'big' name like Curbishley - there is a reason why these guys are out of work.

We needed someone with the following attributes:

- Passionate about the club and the job in hand
- Good contacts in the game
- Manager on the up
- Someone who will not jump at the next job that comes around
- Keen to bring youngsters through into the team
- Enthusiastic and passionate when speaking to the press in order to get the fans back on side after the apathy from the second half of last season.

It seems that Rodgers has all these attributes and is therefore the perfect fit at this particular time for Reading.

Super_horns My own warning is that we did seem to tire or let in a few late goals last season under Rodgers which cost us some points albeit we also scored a few as well.

He likes the 4-5-1 formation but from what some of your fans on the 606 site are saying that would actually suit your players more?

Don't listen to any Reading fans on 606 they're all drunks...

Very happy with the appoinment.

BR ticks all the right boxes for me and I'm looking forward to the next couple of months now to see how he starts to shape up the squad.

Exciting times!

just seen his article on James Henry.

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/footb ... to_explode

I've seen a few highlights of his loan at millwall and if rodgers can bring the best out of him we could have a more skillful beckham in the making. I mean every word of that.

Why? Do you really think he would have left Watford for anybody else other than Reading? It's his love of the club that has made him leave. He wouldn't have gone to Wigan if they'd approached. And I actually can't think of any club in the Premier League that might be looking for a manager that he would have considered. Chelsea is the only other club I think he would have walked out on a 6 month job at Watford for, and no way they were going to ask him. Chelsea is the only club he'll walk out on Reading for, and if he does it will be because he's done an AMAZING job at Reading. He'll be here for a long while yet, unless he fails and gets the boot, which I'm not expecting.

I think that might be a little naive Rawlie, although I do think it would now take more for him to leave Reading that it ever would've done considering the situation at Watford.

I'm sure if Wigan came in for him a he would've jumped at the chance.

I think he said in an interview somewhere that he wouldn't have left Watford for any Championship club other than Reading, therefore implying that, yes, he would have jumped at the chance to manage in the Premiership.

As an anti-Rodgerite I'm wary of his McGheeism, however it's a fair point that we're a special case as he still lives here, it's his old club etc. so he's more likely to have come here. It also means he's less likely to leave. I think I believe he's unlikely to have gone to another champ club and is very unlikely to do so now too.

Will he go to a Prem club? I think the issue is no-one would take him as he's still not achieved anything except for a promising start. And I don't think we'd even bother if he hadn't been part of the set-up here before. The only thing that'll interest a Prem club would be if he manages to take us up. So then the only concern becomes...

if we're in the Prem would he leave us for another club?

I'd hope not but I wouldn't bet on it.

Brendan: Good football is vital
Posted on: Fri 12 Jun 2009

New manager Brendan Rodgers has pledged to play good football during his tenure at Madejski Stadium.

Now that he is in the hotseat, Rodgers will do his utmost to bring a passing game to the Reading faithful.

He said, "I'm a different tactician. When I came into the Championship I was told you can't play football.

"I could understand that statement because there were some games more like rugby than football. The ball was kicked all over the place and I felt sorry for the football!

"But you can play football in this division and you can get players to express themselves and feel comfortable with the ball.

"The gameplan is to win - but for me, the most important thing in the game after scoring goals is to have the football.

"A lot of my work is based around that and it's bringing in a different slant.

"Every manager is different and I've been fortunate to perfect that pattern over 15 years.

"It's a mix of British and European models so I am looking forward to putting that in place."

Looking forwards to this season.

80 pages of ifs/buts/maybes; none of us really have any clue what life is going to be like under this unproven young manager but the most important thing as far as I am concerned is whether Brendy Wendy has any plans to change his username to Brendan Wendon by way of tribute.

I realise that the official site have space to fill this summer but enough of the superlatives already; "A new cycle.....I am Reading's greatest fan.....I want to inspire the town.....I am the eggman.....I am the Walrus". Actions speak louder than words, we know how highly rated you are and we respect your background and your reputation. There is no need to sell yourself to us, now get busy using some of that £6.5 million to get us challenging again.
