Loyal - he didnt feature in any odds until yesterday evening and came straight in at the price showing now - think bookies earholed the interview with Madejski yesterday evening, and maybe read between the lines

Alan Partridge I think you lot are looking too much into it. Whenever there is a managerial change they have always said 'it won't be a kneejerk reaction' they always take their time over it,we had to wait 3/4weeks for Coppell. It will be the same this time, he's said there's been lots of interest but right now and for the immediate future McDermott is looking after the team. Of course if he does well in the coming period, then why shouldn't he be looked at as a candidate?

It was the same when Dillon took over, he didn't get many results ad behind the scenes they were after a manager. The same will happen now.

Exactly, but that doesn't suit peoples arguements does it?

How about a Ferguson with Mcdermott as his assistant combo?

That may work well

Dodd me if this has been said before (can't be bothered to read all 23 pages) but word from Peterborough is that Ferguson was being a naughty boy with someone else's missus. We don't need that

Why not? He's still a decent manager.

I actually think McDermott could be a good move. He knows the club, the financial restraints in place, he's done a fantastic job with the reserves as well. The problem for us is there still requires some trimming of the squad, and the squad is already a weak one. It doesn't matter if we bring in Darren Ferguson or Alex Ferguson, we're facing a couple of glum years under these restrictions from the chairman. It's not going to be pretty.

I am yet to see any post from you that resembles any form of intelligence, let alone common sense. What exactly is your contribution to this board?

I find it easier to ignore the trolls.

Darren Ferguson with McD as assistant is a good shout, i'd be well happy with that. Good balance of old and new blood.

Loyal - Up until yesterday evening, BMs name appeared nowhere on the bookies lists - the attached is what I saw earlier although at that time Paddy Power hadnt posted their odds http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/reading-specials/next-permanent-manager

Arnie_Pie
MmmMonsterMunch The way I see it is one of these 2 scenarios:

1) BR did have a blazing row with the club & left unexpectedly which could point to Brian getting the job FT as we weren't in the hunt for anyone

2) The writing was on the wall for BR, and the club sacked him with someone else in mind & they've moved quickly to ensure their target doesn't get snapped up elsewhere.

Which one is it?!!

The first one, no doubt about it.

JM would not have had the cojones to sack BR at this time. No way.

No doubt? On what basis did you base your "no doubt" on? One unfounded rumour spewed by the rags?

Anyway, Mr Mad has just blown your "no doubt" into pieces:

official site It's been widely reported there was a row over money, what's the situation there?
No, that is completely unfounded and in fact we never had a cross word together, ever. I've never had an argument with him, ever, and you can take that as gospel. We left on cordial terms and I will say it was with deep regret he had to go. He's a fine man and I have a great affinity with him, as he does with Reading Football Club. It's all about results, that's all there is to it. It was a board decision. I never make a unilateral decision.

 @ Arnie Pie.

Come on why would an interview conducted by people who JM pays their wage be bias?

Let's face it, from that interview McDermott is here for the foreseeable, maybe the rest of the season if the next 3-4 games are, um, successful!? How you define successful is open to debate!

I can't believe someone said that McDermott was a top player at Arsenal, he hardly played did he?

As for doing a good job with the Reserves meaning anything, that's laughable. All the Reserves is about is getting players out on the pitch and helping individuals progress, develop and get fit. It's not a competitive challenge where teams are really that bothered about winning.

It might show that he's good at coaching and helping players out, it doesn't mean he is any good at building a squad, keeping all the players happy, setting a team up tactically for a competitive league game or all the other things that go with being a proper manager.

I'm not saying he won't be good at it, but winning a few Reserve games is nothing like running a football club.

When it's a player's wife it does upset the dressing room team ethic somewhat
