Absolutely incredible tonight, they did as all proud right through the team. I really think McDermott should be given a chance now. The team are playing with belief, commitment and no small amount of ability. The addition of Mills at the back has brought out the best in Ivar tonight and he looks far less shakey than when partnered by Pearce. Also Karacan in midfield has added a bit of much needed bite and it pains me to say it, but perhaps we are better off without Matejovsky in the side. This was a great night for all involved with the club, but the serious business is at the weekend and hopefully we can kick on from here starting at Forest on Saturday.

On the penalty, Benayoun made an unnecessary challenge on Long and there was contact no matter how little. Liverpool have little room complaint after N'Gog's blatent dive against Birmingham and tbh it was a deserved lifeline. If I'm completely honest, right now I couldn't care less if it were a dive anyway!

Sarah Star On the telly, all I could hear for the vast majority of the game were Reading fans singing their hearts out. So yes, it did come across.

I certainly came across when the whistle went!

Back from the telly.

That was incredible. Whether it was a penalty or not is totally irrelevant. Reading deserved to win the 1st game, and they absolutely dominated tonight. They were that much better than Liverpool it was frightening.

Federici was faultless tonight in goal, and from him to the outstanding Church leading the line they were all superb. Gunnarsson as mentioned for me put in the best display from a fullback I think i've ever seen, and he doesn't even play there normally. The two centre halves headed and kicked everything. Karacan was everywhere, Sigurdsson showed nerves of steel with the pen, McAnuff nearly did a Maradona, the finish was more Madonna but nevermind, and Church was absolutely tireless. I would bring our new Icleander in for the Jam Roll, and would swap Cisse for either Howard or Tabb but the rest of that side could and possibly should remain the same for the forseeable future.

Tonight I enjoyed watching Reading, sod the game or the opposition, it was all about Reading tonight and I loved watching them play tonight, first time for about 3 seasons. I felt as though Reading had hits soul back tonight. 11 blokes giving it their all, helping each other, real team performance.

It's a great night for the club, players and fans and it feels really good.

Great post AP and summed what I feel up.

Has Church convinced you yet? I think he has a great future in the game.

Kara is brilliant as is the Sig. I think the Mills, Ingi partnership is a whole world better than the Pearce, Ingi one.

Mcanuff was fantastic.

Wondeful stuff in general. :D

Indeed +1. It feels satisfying to see the players playing with commitment and pride for the Reading shirt.

Can't wait to see us take on Forest on Saturday. I have a feeling that this really will be the turning point of our season.

When I first saw Church, and at the start of the season I thought he was a little boy lost. I thought he was mediocre at best. Now he HAS to improve his finishing. A decent goalscorer should have scored 2 goals tonight and I felt he should have done better with the 2 headed chances he had. But his workrate is phenomenal. His movement is good, his touch is good. He's a good footballer. Clearly still got a long way to go but he'll get there I feel. The good thing with Church is, his main problem can be coached. Finishing. With practise, time and expereince you'd hope it will happen for him.

If Reading can get a reliable finisher next to him. I quite like Rasiak, but he was a bit of his depth tonight, maybe this new fella can tuck a few away, get that sort of cool finisher next to Church then that has the makings of a good partnership.

The one person that I want to give more praise to tonight is Adam Federici. Whether in the back of his mind he was hoping to impress Liverpool tonight I don't know but he was faultless tonight. The block from Benayoun was very good, apart from a possible near post fragility, Federici's positioning for me in 1 on 1 situations isn't great but he was spot on tonight, stayed big, stayed central of the goal, and whilst it was a poor finish he was there to save it. The catch in the last 10 seconds is something which I love to see. It's the easy choice for the keeper to stay at home and hope your CB heads it clear for you right at the end, but him catching that ball just instantly kills the attack and pressure. Superb tonight was Federici and I've been critical of him.

Ivar too, absolute rock. Sensational.

Do it in the league you prats!!!!!!!!!!!

Just got home (live in Chester). THE best 120 minutes of football for donkeys years. Everyone 10/10, but MOM to Brynyar - legendary performance, with the skinning for Long being the icing.

Give McccyD the job!!!!!!!

We can hear the Reading sing!

by comeonthebiscuitmen » 14 Jan 2010 00:53

Back home watching the full game on sky plus (I live in Merseyside) and Im hearing some great chants from our fans who outsang Liverpool tonight.

What chants can you find?

I'll start you off with:

33:33 - a chorus of "More noise in a Library"

Best chant of the night tho:

"County Kitchens the Best Kitchens in the County , duh duh der"

priceless!

Doubt it was captured on Tv though...

I have only been a fan since the 1st season in the Prem. This is, without a doubt the greatest sporting moment I have ever witnessed.

I love this team more than anything else (Bar the missus mind) and are so chuffed for the guys.

McD is a great tactician - great subs, all at the right time.

I think Long played a great game after coming on off the bench, defended brilliantly, and I would not have wanted anyone Elses head on the ball for the sublime cross from Boris.

What a day, what a game - what a feeling. Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Feel sorry for Jobi, but it produced one of the greatest quotes from BBC's Jonathan Stevenson.
BBC's Jonathan Stevenson 2127: Reading's Jobi McAnuff nearly scores one of the great FA Cup goals of all time. I'm not joking. He starts the run deep inside his own half, runs at brilliant pace, jinks past about five Liverpool players and is suddenly one-on-one with Diego Cavalieri. Faced with the Brazilian, and about to score a goal that will be replayed into his old age, McAnuff slots wide. And he was never heard of again...

I love life.

Well after that performance I for one am now McD's biggest fan....no nonsense, good honest football is what we got tonight...

There was none of this 'I am Premiership' about the players...true grit and determination, with a little bit of tenacity, spirit and flair!!!

As a team we looked solid, nothing amazing, but we had a gameplan and an objective which wasn't constructed out of a 40 page tactics manual...basic counter attacking, be it with a long ball or a speedy breakaway and then defend for our lives whenever Liverpool got the ball...we moan that this player is slow, that play is rubbish etc...but it's not about the individual...it's like cogs in a machine get them in the right order and the machine works....even if some of the parts might not be made to the best quality...I think Coppell used to say that about the 106 side...

You could sense at half-time that something would happen..Coppell even had a wry smile..almost as if he knew what would happen...if during their time together at the club McD actually observed the way Coppell worked and took some of it on board...then I'd be more than happy for him to continue...Coppell made the club successful and there were alot of good things he did and if the next manager is humble enough to at least acknowledge this and work to something of a similar plan...then we will be back up and running as a half decent outfit in no time...avoid relegation and write this season off...and start to build for next season... gradually of course

After the 2 games against Liverpool...I don't really miss being in the Premiership...we moan about our lot not performing...well that side cost probably ten times the amount and they didn't show up...I'd be annoyed if we shelled out silly money for players who perform once or twice every six to eight games...

Fair play to McDermott by the way, feel I must say this. Talked a lot of sense before in his interview and after - I'm prepared to keep him for now as we can't do any worse. The way I see it, he's got us better organised defensively, but time will tell whether he can keep up the good attacking football Rodgers began to implement and use to our advantage - if he can do both then he definitely has my thumbs up. Time will tell though in the league!
