Ark Royal
Arch
Ark Royal 1-1 at home Plymouth is NOT good enough. Going down.

Good on yer, Ark. I owe you a pint next time up Milwaukee way.

They must have heard me! We have to beat the teams around us. A win, is a win, is a win. Well done, lads!

The bottom half of the table is now fu cking stupid!

Echo'd on every sentiment Arky --victory, and in particular over those around us and at home, is the only way up and over

Arch Btw, fuqueue Leicester and forest for failing to do the business today

'Greed, but I expect no help whatsoever; we need for others to draw and draw and draw, and so now watch 'em go and swap wins and losses the rest of the way

Speaking of the run in, I reckon 52 points usually just about gets it done

That'd mean that we need to find 20 points from 17 remaining games (9H 8A) in the league --5 wins plus 5 draws or 6 wins plus 2 draws, or 7 wins should do

We may even need more than that, depending; point is, while it's nice to sit and think "If you'd told me before Barnsley that we'd get 7 points out of our next three...," yesterdays don't matter when you're outplaying a side five points in back of you at home and still drawing

I'm thinking 40 from the next 17. 12 wins, 4 draws, and one oxf*rd defeat. 72 points and sixth place!

I'm backing Brian!

The number of points required to stay up this season could be all over the place.

Two teams cut adrift with low points means that the rest have more points to share round.
The fact that there's only ( ) 11 points between relegation and play-offs suggests that these points aree being shared around fairly evenly.
What does that do to the number of points needed to survive - I haven't the faintest idea.

Most seasons 50 is sufficient, I'm going to pump for 55 as the magic number this time.

Ian Royal Sig coming back in will take some pressure off Long so he's not our only scorer.

Church has so much to his game, just can't score nearly enough. Rasiak has not a lot to his game, but can score a few. Thor looks the biz from the snippets I've seen. And now Long is scoring would like to see him back.

Church reminds me a lot of Doyle with his work rate and movement, his goalscoring actually harks back to Doyle in our 2nd season in the PL. And of course both of them can do a job on the right.

If only Long could do the business in the 1st half of the season he could become a decent Championship striker. He may yet finish the season with double figures too. But if anyone can get the best out of him its McDermott. I seem to remember the season we won the PL reserve title his goal return was excellent. Interesting that McD's post match comments seemed to infer that Long may not have been fit enough earlier in the season before he took over. Maybe that was true of the squad as a whole? I certainly couldn't have imagined many late winners in the Rodgers era!

Ian Royal
Franchise:- we're only winning because the rest of my life has gone to shit. Not even I can have enough bad luck to have Reading losing as well!

I think I know where you're coming from here...

We only ever seem to do well when i'm unhappy with other things...unless i'm at a game, in which case the better mood i'm in the better the game is.

Also whenever i've been out/away this season we've lost, except one occasion - Swansea away. And over the years when i've been complacent in assuming we've done enough and the result is in the bag, thats been when we've cocked it up

Maybe it warrants its own thread...or not; in any case:

I Speaking of the run in, I reckon 52 points usually just about gets it done

Franchise FC The number of points required to stay up this season could be all over the place.

Indeed, and it'll have plenty to do with remaining matchups between relegation chasers and the degree to which those end in draws or clear results

rhroyal Most seasons 50 is sufficient, I'm going to pump for 55 as the magic number this time.

Good thinking right there --I fear that something anomalous could be the outcome this time and ending up on the wrong end of it

Here's how the division's safety/relegation picture ended up in the eight most recent seasons

2008/9: 21st/51 pts 22nd/46 pts
2007/8: 21st/53 pts 22nd/52 pts
2006/7: 21st/49 pts 22nd/42 pts (Leeds deducted 10 pts; would "of" finished in 22nd on 46 otherwise)
2005/6: 21st/50 pts 22nd/42 pts
2004/5: 21st/50 pts 22nd/50 pts (relegation decided on goal difference)
2003/4: 21st/51 pts 22nd/51 pts (relegation decided on goal difference)
2002/3: 21st/50 pts 22nd/46 pts
2001/2: 21st/49 pts 22nd/49 pts (relegation decided on goal difference)

The way this season in the Championship is going it would not surprise me if we had one of if not the lowest ever points spread between 6th and 21st places - perhaps something like 55 - 68 points. Could be very exciting end to the season for a lot of teams with relegation, promotion and play offs going down to the wire - unless of course QPR continue to implode - in which case they will finish below Peterborough!

Here's a snapshot of Football 365's End of Season run-in for the Championship. They don't normally make the link available until nearer the end of the season, but if you know it you can go directly there at any time.

Still wearing my khaki trousers, but it's looking a bit better. If form remains as it currently is, we'll be safe, and Newcastle will be in the play-offs. It won't, of course.

It's been there all season on their "Stats Index" page......

So it is. It's not on the divisional overview page, though. It must be that one they add it later to.

How far back does 'Recent Form' go in these stats? We have won three in a row and only WBA can match that!
