You obviously don't understand what I am talking about then. I'm not talking about extending the roof out a bit further, I'm talking about having a clear roof instead of a solid roof above the south stand and south west corner. You can see it in this image.
So no I am not wrong and you can shove your "know-it-all" comment up your arse.

West Stand Man OOh get you.
"Ooops I have been shown up so I'll resort to mindless insult"
Clearly the designers did consider the benefits of see through roofing - but also knew that it wasn't going to any benefit at the extent of the current roof. Just because the Ricoh has it doesn't mean it is right for everyone.

Terminal BoardomHarpers So Solid CrewJackson Corner It's the worst I have seen it at this stage of the season since we have been at the Mad Stad. A combination of egg chasers and terrible weather. It needs re laying in the summer but that can cost up to £250,000 Can you see the club doing that?
Yep, as it will be in the LI contract that the pitch is in playable condition. Perhaps the answer would be to extend the Stadium, then they could get more light into the grassed area.
Wow! Just what I always wanted. ANOTHER thread about the state of the pitch![]()
Or to replace part of the stadium roof with transparent panels in the South and West stands in order that more light can get onto the pitch. There are plenty of stadia with this type of design.

Sun Tzu I ahve no idea whether replacing some of the panels would make any difference, but it would be interesting to know. Would the orientation of the stadium (compass direction rather than sexual) and the angle of the sun compared to the height of the walls be relevant ?
The Ricoh may well be much higher (remember the Mad Stad is half buried) so maybe they needed the panels just to allow the SAME amount of light that we get to reach the pitch.

Muskrat The original design definately included clear panels around the perimieter of the roof - I remember it on the architectural model that was used to promote the new stadium. I also remember that these were designed out for cost purposes but can't remember if that meant the roof not extending so far out - don't think it did actually.
So the designers didn't ignore the possibility of getting more light onto the pitch - it was just omitted from the final design.

Row Z Royal Stop moaning and turn to Sky Sports 1. Wigan's pitch is comparable to Kingsmeadow's Pitch 3 this morning.

Kings Meadow has deteriorated then !
What an atrocious surface, ours is a bowling green by comparison.
