Best away team I saw at Elm Park was probably Manchester United who we played in 1996.

Best RFC I saw at Elm Park was the team that beat Bolton 2-1 in 1995.

To be honest, I don't remember the game and wasn't there. I do remember the team though. Their FA Cup win was the first I was really aware of, and I had Lee and Summerbee ciggy cards for years.

0-0 at Maine road with Colin blazing a penalty over the bar, over 26.000 crammed into elm park for the replay only to get rolled over 7-0, i was only a young lad at the time and even standing on tiptoes at the back could only see the crossbar at the town end goal.

1-6, and the 1 was a Nogan double pike special.

One of the best for me was Dnepr in a pre-season friendly 1992 ish, they'd been Soviet champions a couple of years previously. We were 2-1 at HT, but they went through the gears in the second half, it was magnificent and we applauded them off as 4-2 winners at the end.

Yes, I was there, 31 Jan 1968. Reading 0 - 7 Man City. Must have been a weekday evening. I would have been 17. City went on to win the League Championship (as it was then) that year. Lee, Bell, Summerbee....marvellous.

Went to Maine Road for the 0-0 by train on a football special from Reading in the days before Man Utd,Chelsea and Leeds fans ruined these specials by trashing everything in sight-nothing better than having your own train full of just your own fans for an away game.
Anyway we came away from Maine Road believing that we had a real chance in the replay not understanding that this was an off day for City for a team destined to be league champions,fa cup winners and European Cup-winners cup winners all within the next few seasons.

The replay was in front of a full house and I stood towards the Tilehurst End under the clock.
What a performance by City that night when not only did they score 7 but IIRC hit the bar at least once if not twice.
Nobody left early, nobody called for the manager to be sacked and the opposition was applauded off because we knew that we had seen a special team give a special performance.

One other performace when I felt we had been given a lesson was a 4-1 beating by Ipswich in Jim & Mick's days when they played us off the park.

Over the years we had a pretty good home record at Elm Park so these sort of performances stand out as generally we won many more than we lost.

0-0 at Maine Road. Tony Coleman missed a penalty. City thugs caught up with us as we made our way to the railway station. Return match at Elm park was a masterclass in how to play football. All we could do was sit back and admire it....
